2024-25 Season

Last season we had Kadary Richmond who, at 6'6. was difficult to defend on drives.
However, he was a zero threat offensively outside the paint.
His leadership was mediocre at best! He was not the coach on the floor. Once injured, Smith became " a wild card " because we never knew what to expect.
Ergo, our strength at pg was overstated.
There was no better example than our last game against Arkansas.
KR and Smith combined for 3 fat assists.
Jackson and Darling may actually bring more to the backcourt than some think.
The real wild card is when will this team gel and who will not fit in😉
This is really a nutty post.

Other than my mediocre leadership description........what else did you disagree with?

Read my first TWO lines!

My leadership evaluation is made vis-a-vis all other NBA eligible point guards and not solely about being a silent lead guard on the court. Putting aside "Homer Bias" do any of you think any NBA scouts were impressed with KD as a potential NBA lead guard??

My definition of leadership on the court is better overall point guards that played last year like Dylan Harper, Kasparas Jakucionis, Jeremiah Fears, and VJ Edgecombe.
All of these guys will be drafted.
Heck out of all D1 point guards last season KD wasn't even in the top 40 in assists. The kid coming in (Dylan Darling) was ranked #28 in assists.

My personal favorite pgs last season were Ryan Nemdhard and Steven Ashworth.....for what it's worth.

None of what I say takes away from the invaluable role KD played in our stellar season.

NBA eligibility or potential has zero to do with Kadary's performance for our best season in eons last year. He was the consummate leader for us and without him deferring neither RJ or Zuby have close to the seasons they had. To me that is the definition of leadership, making others better.

My last line should be the final point that you seem to have digested correctly.
Many of our close wins had nothing to do with KD deferring to others.
I'm describing his overall game whether you guys want to or not.

Kadary carried the offense like a PG should. He created value beyomd what you saw on paper and made those around him better. That, IMO, is how you define a leader. Last years team was significantly better when he was on the court. Look at the last game of the year. Team was lost without him leading them on the court. No way they lose if he didn't foul out (and 2 fouls on him were complete BS).

No offense, but why are we having this conversation? Kadary, while only a Johnie for one year, was a stellar player for us. He played his butt off and never complained about crap calls or having his scoring number diminished to allow those around him to excel. This team does not win 30 games without him at the lead guard position.

I could go on and on, but I just come back to the point that kadary made those around him better. That is what a leader does.

Nailed it. Well said.

Kadary was awesome and we will miss him dearly next season. He led by example, never got rattled, and was selfless. Exactly what you need in big games. I think if he doesn’t get into foul trouble, we beat Arkansas. He would have gotten everyone better looks and we wouldn’t have shot as poorly as we did. That’s how important he was.
Loosing Kadaray in that game was the nail in coffin. Unbelievable leader and PG. Created mismatch issues all year. His passing skills were second to none. Grt grt pg

I just chugged my ice coffee reading this. You got me amped.

Once January rolled around Richmond got comfortable, and his passing was superb at times, his court vision great, got the ball to guys in places where they could do something good, also, he defended, had deflections, steals and a blocked shot now and then. He could rebound, a bucket getter when needed most. I'd take him on my team in a heart beat. Played through injuries too. Total team first guy. Only negatives, long range shooting and FTs. But there are many PGs in CBB that aren't Steph Curry shooters.

We are having this conversation because a brilliant poster on this site pointed out his overall point guard skills as MEDIOCRE.🤫
That struck a nerve in all the pedestrian posters on the board.😝

I think I made it clear that his contributions were "invaluable".

I also identified his contemporaries last season who, if evaluated for ANY professional team, were far superior at the POSITION. All you literati here come back with is what he did for the TEAM.

FORGET our record for a moment. Look at the team. ZUBY was the most important player on the team last year. RJ Luis was the best offensive player on the team last year. It wasn't even close with any other players.

Scott played his ass off on defense which was huge in many games. His offense was "MEDIOCRE". Smith was a true point guard whose injury made KD invaluable.

KD's real value that few college teams matched last season were his SIZE and mismatch opportunities. He was literally unstoppable once he got space to the basket.

Outside of that scenario his value at the point was not that of other point guards in college ball who were better shooters from every metric. His 3 point shot was nonexistent which is a MUST in the pros. His foul shooting was ATROCIOUS.
Hence my comparison to Nemdhard, Walter Clayton, and all the other point guards.

END OF STORY.........let's move on to our next great point guard next year....DARLINGS.😉
