Get Ready for 25-26!

Compare these 2 sets of PGs:

UConn: Silas Demary / Malachi Smith
SJU: Ian Jackson / Dylan Darling

That’s the hill Pitino has to climb. He obviously thinks he can, but to say we’re strong at the 1 position is a stretch.
Do you think Demery is a better player than Jackson? I think Jackson is better. Demery is kind of a 1/2 type guard also. Malachi Smith is a pure point and might be better than Darling. I’ve seen Smith play a number of times but haven’t seen Darling.

It is going to be a mess. Lots to process in a short period of time and I’m sure mistakes have and will be made. Would just urge patience.
Patience and embrace the reality. We have a buzz that really hasn't existed in my lifetime as a fan on this scale, and when it did it was pre-social media and a much different sports watching/attendance environment (I'm younger than many here). I get the frustration that may exist for long time season ticket holders who lived with this team through the ups and downs, and hope all of you come out of this with getting the options you want. I'm a more recent season ticket holder, and a more limited package at that (can't commit to Queens games because of the location). If my MSG tickets don't end up as good as the last few years, I'm willing to live with that trade off because of the ascension of the program.

Insane! New Yorkers don't want to miss something big. It's happening in Queens with the Mets too.
Yes, not a Met fans but I understand they are drawing well. Which they should. I know Uncle Stevie wasn't thrilled with attendance last year down the stretch, especially given how well the Yankees draw, and made some remarks to that effect publicly, no different than what we've seen Pitino do here or there to engage the fanbase. Part of that was how the Met season started last year and part is simply the different fanbase dynamic. Yankees have no reason not to draw, as expensive as that can be depending on where you sit, because they've been good for basically 35+ years.

In fairness, has the Classic actually put anything out on this change yet? If not, it I highly possible that we can’t put out an official press release until they do since it is their tournament.
My comment has less to do with the Classic than overall SJU SID social media utilization. I thought back in the day Mark Fratto was particularly adroit in that regard and the profile of the program is obviously at a much higher level now. To me, we should apply “gold standard” thinking to where SJU Basketball is today. Just my two cents.

I’ve worked in social media my whole career I’ll send a resume lol

We lost nine players off of last year's team and added nine players now. Will we better than last year? No one can say for certain, but last year's group set a very high bar (at least until we lost to Arkansas). Looking at the nine players we lost and comparing them to the nine we are bringin in, it is hard to assess if we will be as good or better until we see how it all comes together. That said, there are some intriguing additions to replace the massive roster losses. I tried to line them up based on roles and skillsets but this is obviously an inexact science here.

  • 1) R.J. Luis 1) Ian jackson
  • 2) Kadary Richmond 2) Bryce Hopkins
  • 3) Devion Smith 3) Dylan Darling
  • 4) Aaron Scott 4) Dillon Mitchell
  • 5) Khaman Maker 5) Handje Tamba
  • 6) Jaiden Glover 6) Kelvin Odih
  • 7) Simeon Wilcher 7) Joson Sanon
  • 8) Brady Dunlap 8) Imran Soljanovic
  • 9) Vince Iwuchuku 9) Oziyah Sellers
BTW It is hard to find a comparison for Vince in the nine new players (certainly Sellers is not a comparison at all because he fills a different role than Vince) and really all of these comparisons are more guesses than based on actual experience of watching the new players play. However, I would assume there would be some upgrades amongst the nine new players, but there would aslo be some downgrades as well.

Are you asking "who's the better overall player?" or "who's the better point guard?" I think Jackson is a proven elite shooting guard. Demery was the starting point guard at Georgia for most of this past season, he's experienced at this position, so I have to give him the upper hand when it comes to ranking these 2 as point guards. Smith has high-major experience as a PG, it is unknown whether Darling can handle BE-caliber guards.

I think you also have to look farther down the roster to make this comparison in case of foul trouble or injury. We have Lefty and take your pick of some dynamic combo guards. Who does UConn have to fill in when needed? BTW, I think Darling is also a pure point guard.

I know Darling is a pure point guard , I’ve just never seen him play but I’ve seen Smith.

I'm greedy, I want more, I want so much talent that we can do full court all game long.

The level that Nolan did it.

waittttttttttt, so when is this settlement suppose to pass?
Better be before May 31st.
Entire college basketball coaching staff and admins anticipate house settlement passing soon and 2 more roster spots being approved
