Homeland And All Things Maher

He was apparently here yesterday if you find one of his old posts and click his name for the info.

LW doesn't care about recruiting so he disappears until the season starts.

Not caring about recruiting is very weird to me, but I believe he may have once said that stalking 18-year-olds is weird to him.

But now with the portal we’re mostly stalking 21-22 year olds.

We started watching Andor 2nd season last night. Apparently they are releasing them in pods of 3 at a time. 2 of the 3 last night were absolutely horrible. Episode 3 was better.

I've been to long weddings but goddamn that was one long-ass intergalactic wedding.

Season 1 was significantly better.

Watched "Daredevil Born Again" --- yech. They should have just gone with the source material instead of this silly plot and gratuitous gore in the finale.

This is a few years old, but started watching "Mosquito Coast" on Apple TV. Only four episodes in, but it's a really good show. And I never saw the Harrison Ford movie or read the book so it's all new to me.

Nathalie's cousins wedding reception last year was 10 hours. I literally left during the middle to take a 2 hour nap in the car. This one did seem longer :)

I’m up to the 5th season of The Americans. Great show, a little slow. The 4th season with the whole Martha/biochem weapons plot was my favorite. So far it’s looking like it’s not gonna be up in my annals of favorite TV though (although the reviews on season 6 look to be the best). I do miss Nina…whichever actress played her is beautiful.

Great show. When you get there, the series finale ties things up very nicely. It was not hastily slapped together.

I liked that show. The actress that played Nina is a graduate of St. John's.

It’s carefulness and meticulous direction is what makes the show as good as it is but also drags it down at times. I have no doubt it will have a good ending because the show’s writer is no hack. He is apparently former FBI or something and I saw the episode that touched on the Iran-Contra stuff was actually co-written by Ollie North himself.

Enjoyed that show throughly, not the top 1% of these types of shows, but good.

Finally saw “A Complete Unknown” - thank you Delta.

I was reluctant since I'm a big Dylan fan and biopics are very hit or miss. This hit.

It was much better than I thought considering the last thing James Mangold did was a terrible Indiana Jones movie. But he did "Cop Land" and a bunch of other solid flicks and that came through here.

Sure some liberties were taken, but it captured the spirit of both the Dylan story and the era very well. It had some surprisingly poignant moments especially the Woody Guthrie scenes.

Timmy was great in the lead role. He played young Dylan perfectly with a mix of ambition, disdain, and assholery.

The supporting cast was spectacular with Norton as St. Pete, the pious, dogmatic Newport Folk Festival folks and, of course, the two actresses who played Joan Baez and Sylvie aka Suze Rotolo.

It receives a coveted MainMan thumbs up.
