SJU Offseason Thread (portal and recruiting discussions)

Cal played Boogie 20 minutes in their win over St. John's. Had a couple of key plays to secure the win.
In their loss to Texas Tech. perhaps his injury was a liability and played less than 9 minutes with ZERO assists.
Unlike St, John's, Calipari moved immediately to replace him on the roster.
Ian Jackson is not a replacement for Kadary Richmond or Smith.
Unlike others, I don't think Boogie is returning to Arkansas.
Unlike RJ Luis, Boogie is a legitimate borderline first round draft pick.
This may go down to the wire but it won't stop SJ from signing a backup point guard.
There are less than half a dozen schools with the NIL $ on Boogie Fland's price range.
I'm not sure we are one of them but, like Ian Jackson, he was not the miracle worker at Arkansas. Of course his injury may have hurt the team but Cal had a tough time blending his talented roster.
Putting everyone’s Boogie colored glasses aside…I didn’t really think his use at Arkansas would make him a favorite to be a lotto pick. Is he good? Yeah. But lots of really good PGs out there. Younger? Sure but that also comes with risks.

No way he would have entered the portal if Cal said “test the draft waters and you’re welcome back.” Exactly like what Rick did with RJ. If he was all in for the draft this year this wouldn’t even be an option.

25 minutes till portal closing or 3:25 ?
Technically all players have to do is text someone in their school’s NCAA compliance office or whatever of their intention to enter before midnight and that will still be considered good even if the paperwork doesn’t get signed until later. So still might hear of a few late entries tomorrow but I doubt it’ll be anybody significant

It is a little shocking to me that we will have an almost entirely new roster again this year (other than Prey, Zuby and Lefty, if I am tracking that correctly). But, I guess I should not be surprised in this day and age, and with our coach who laser is focused on winning a NC here in the next few years, and with all the money floating around. Just have to accustom myself to this every year, I guess. Not sure I will be able to.

I for one thought Vince had potential (Yeah, I have heard the 'what are we waiting for' stuff), but centers take time, and he had pretty good athleticism and can't teach that kind of size... I think he could have taken a step up.

At this point, I guess we sign Mitchell, get a backup at the point and a backup at center and there we go....

I'm with you on this point. Obviously not the same as it used to be, I've just had to adjust my expectations to the new environment and understand every year could essentially be a different team. Just thankful we are in a position to dominate in this landscape.
