Available Lead Guards

I’m leaning more and more towards Tavari Johnson. The height is worrisome, but in terms of what we don’t have I think he makes the most sense. Comes from a good team, where he had to share the ball and shots, and played for a demanding coach.

Is he on our radar at all

Not sure why people are not in favor of a freshman, Lewis, being our point guard. Our last two freshman point guards, Shamorie and Posh, did very wekk for themselves their first year.

Some Freshmen can play day 1...especially guards. Barkley, Cook, Lovett, Ponds, Posh, etc. are evidence of that here. Man, how good was Lovett right out of the gate?

The recent evidence we are going off of is freshmen haven't done well here under Pitino. Even Clayton was underwhelming for him at Iona playing several levels below where he belonged. The defensive stuff can be overwhelming for them as you know from watching practice.

From Louisville on, some really good guards have struggled year 1 for him. Even Donovan Mitchell.

I don’t recall whether or not he was able to practice the year he sat out.
i was under the impression that all RS are able to practice/workout... like Clark/Simon.... just cant travel to away games... could be completely making this up.

I do remember Lovett playing in the Red/white game in the pre-season (Durand looked like a 1st teamer in that game lol) ... and then being extremely disappointed when he got ruled ineligible...

Back pre free transfer, when a player transferred in from another four year school like Clark/Simon, they were ineligible to play for one season but could practice. Lovett was a different story as he came from HS and he was declared academically ineligible by the NCAA due to his course work in HS (long story). Usually in that case, players are not eligible to practice the year they sit out ( Sproiling, Singleton and Glover are examples).

He might have played in the Red/White scrimmage but if he was declared ineligible afterwards, he might not have been able to practice from that point on. I really just don’t recall if he was able to or not.
