My adversary Moose implied yesterday that aggressive recruiters are adept at “encouraging” non portal guys to enter. Our outstanding roster & resources will be enticing to agents and players imo.

If my memory is correct, pasha had verbaled 2+ years ago to pitino at Iona, but didn’t go when CRP left.
Then wanted to follow pitino here to St. John’s, but we didn’t offer. Strong connection ?

Pasha was recruited to Iona before he came to St. John’s. He then prepped a year and played a year at Delaware. I liked his game and got better as the season went along. Pitino has to be very familiar with him and must have made a decision already on any interest.
Didn’t see this when I posted. I agree he has the potential to be a very good player. Honestly I think being the star at Delaware this year would set him up from two big portal years but what do I know.
I totally understand how things work now, and it doesn't bother me we're trying to do this. But imagine if we were on the other end of that and someone pulled one of our guys into the portal. A modern day Doug Wiggins situation I guess??

Teams still try to do it all the time. We wouldn't like it as fans of course. But that’s part of the deal now.
As you point out, it used to happen pre-NIL/portal with the kid who committed but could still back out of the commitment. Wiggins. I think we may have done it back to UConn with Harkless. And of course Seton Hall continues to recruit J. Sanders after he popped for us and got him to switch.

Barrington Hargress intrigues me. Just completed Soph year. At UC Riverside. Was conference POY. ROY last year. Their last PG did similar and went to Florida and is now teetering between NBA and G league.
We were mentioned with Hargress immediately and only visit he’s made is Colorado. Looks like a bowling ball. Takes contact. Good shot.

Allegedly Pitino and Brown suggested he go the Prep route when they got to St. John’s and then there was radio silence. I don’t see either party having interest in each other.

Kadary didn’t enter the transfer portal until April 25. Lots of time left to lure players. (Not that I am fan of it. It’s a twisted system that has to change.)
