Yankees 2025 Season

Over the last few years, the New York Yankees have struggled with base-running, being ranked as one of the worst teams in baseball in terms of baserunning metrics, with players often making costly mistakes and missing opportunities to score.

Here's a more detailed look at the Yankees' baserunning issues:
  • Poor Metrics:
The Yankees have consistently performed poorly in baserunning metrics, such as Fangraphs's BsR (Base Running) and Statcast's baserunning metrics, which aggregate stolen bases, caught stealings, runners thrown out, and other baserunning plays.

  • Costly Mistakes:
The Yankees have been known to make costly baserunning mistakes, such as runners getting thrown out on the base paths or failing to advance on key pitches.

  • Aaron Boone's Role:
Some analysts have pointed to manager Aaron Boone's coaching and strategy as contributing factors to the Yankees' baserunning struggles, with some suggesting the team hasn't emphasized baserunning fundamentals enough.

Yup, it's one thing to have one or two bad baserunners, but when you have a team that consistently runs the bases poorly that is on the manager and coaches and the coaches are ultimately the manager's responsibility.

game twelve. another base running boo boo. this time by the captain. knight sticking another needle into his boonie voodoo doll.

rice a runnie with a two run ballantine blast. 2 zip.

who woulda thunk it. leiter gets the save.

so the rotation is - fried, schmidt/weaver, pr(e)y for snow, fried, schmidt/weaver, pr(e)y for snow. book the canyon of heroes now.

We can only hope that Williams' issues are due to the colder weather and not being able to get a good feel on the baseball for his changeup. If it isn't, then the bullpen becomes a big problem. Fried was awesome yesterday, Rice and Goldschmidt continue to rake, and the Tigers defense in the 9th inning was unbelievably bad. Hoping for some home cooking this weekend against the Giants.

Don't disagree, but Williams spent his Springs in cold weather Milwaukee, so he shoukd not have that excuse. My only concern about Goldschmidt is that he isn't driving in any runs. But I agree, this weather has been brutal.

Milwaukee has a retractable roof. He pitched indoors during the early parts of the season.

Not that it's the only reason, but Rojas is a terrible third base coach.

Too often, he's holding guys, when I think they would score easily. Even with 2 outs.

The Yankees seem to specialize in bad third base coaches. Phil Nevin was no better!
