Great point about Mahaney.I'm personally not sold on Lee. I think his game looks great in the videos and I can appreciate all the positive posts from people much smarter than me when it comes to basketball so if we land him then I'll be excited to see what he can do. But, on the other hand, if we miss out then I will hope it is because the staff found a better fit for the program.
I do get leery with these guys coming up a level. Obviously, it can work out (see Clayton), but it can also backfire (see Mahaney). As much as I trust Rick in evaluating talent, I'm sure people in CT also trust Hurley the same. I recall some members of the board in an uproar when Hurley got Mahaney thinking he was the type of player that would bury SJU. Obviously, that didn't work out.
My point being I don't see Lee as a guaranteed day one contributor like I would if the staff pulled a PG out of the SEC or ACC. Maybe he was hidden away in the Ivy League for three years and was under the radar and he will excel here, or maybe the game will be too fast and the competition too strong for him. It really is a coin flip when you look at these guys outside of power conferences.
Some chatter on DJ Wagner hitting the portal. Honestly, I would prefer him over Lee only for the reason he has proven he can play in a league like the BE. His game isn't perfect, but he made our guys look terrible in the 2nd half and if he can drive and dish to shooters then that is fine with me.
Seems notDo we have any shot at all with Wright?
If not us, I Wish he would go to Florida instead of LeeSeems not
As much as I would have loved to have had this success prior to NIL, this Fantasy Basketball is awesome.Yeah, portal has many moving parts, rumors, anxiety, etc but playing in the big leagues chasing guys makes it a hell of a lot more fun than waiting to see if Jaquan Sanders pops for us or arguing over whether or not Kolby King can play point guard.![]()
I would disagree. I prefer the old model, warts and all, which I think was more school oriented. But, this is the new paradigm, so we go with it.As much as I would have loved to have had this success prior to NIL, this Fantasy Basketball is awesome.
Well it will not be Boogie so it depends on how you feel about Wagner. That can go really good or really bad.
One is going pro and the other wants a chance to run the show so while we might have a chance at one (and neither at this point is in the portal), we can only get one.Can anyone on the staff resist taking Cal's point guard? Can we have both of them? Plenty of minutes to go around at the point.
I meant both Lee and WagnerOne is going pro and the other wants a chance to run the show so while we might have a chance at one (and neither at this point is in the portal), we can only get one.
Thanks for the clarification. I think it would be one or the other as we could be all guarded out even if a couple wind up playing the 2 and 3 with Sanon already committed, Wilcher and if Jackson and/or Sellers commits. Lee and Wagner will be looking to run the show.I meant both Lee and Wagner

Wilcher...Yes, but I think ideally you want to have two point guards....as in Kadary and Devon and lots and lots of other examples...also, foul trouble, injuries, off nights etc. being in the doghouse,
And you! Too humbleOne last portal comment, the site is blessed to have guys close to the possibilities out there like dk423, Mug, Mase, Sju79, Happy, Dave and others. It adds some excitement to the off season on heels of best year we have had in ages. It helps me avoid watching baseball too.![]()
I don’t disagree but if you’re brining in some/all of these other guys, he may have to.I love Wilcher,,,but whether he can play point for serious minutes and any minutes against real pressure remains to be seen.
they're completely different players so I don't think one prohibits the otherRegarding not taking Sellers and Jackson.
I’ll take your word for it from our side wanting both but would have my doubts Sellers would want to come because with Sanon Wilcher Jackson and others it would be awfully crowded at that or those positions. Of course timing factors in if Sellers commits this weekend before Jackson. Then of course you could have a Slawinski situation. JMHO
