Around College Basketball

Yes rev share should give a boost to BE vs football schools. But I don't for a second think football schools won't have major access to private NIL funding from big boosters that will more than make up the difference in rev sharing. They are not going to sit back and allow the BE to get all the good players.

True. But those football schools with have set aside between $5-$10MM for a top QB. Didn’t Carson Beck get around $10MM to transfer to Miami?

And those same football schools also have big time baseball programs which receive NIL money. A couple of the best players on SJU transferred to SEC schools because of it.

Willard left MD because of the uncertainty surrounding how much was going to be allocated to basketball.

And Buzz Williams left a SEC school with a shit ton of oil money to go to Maryland. You think he does that without assurances that Maryland will be well funded?

Willard was looking for an escape hatch and he just decided to usexrev share as an excuse.

Was Williams concerned most of A&M’s oil money was going to football?

Point is, the football schools will look at football first. And football requires a sh*t ton more money to assemble a top tier team, than it does for a basketball team.

The SEC was complaining about revenue sharing being an advantage to the basketball schools.

No my point is football is king no doubt.

But don't think for a second basketball at these schools will allow BE to dominate.

Former SEC Comm Mike Slive about a decade ago when the SEC was dominating football went to his AD s and Presidents and said, "Start taking basketball more seriously. We are not just a football conference and then allow UK amd Florida to carry basketball."

Trust me these football schools will find more revenue for bball without compromising football. Rick Barnes. Nate Oates, Bruce Pearl etc are not going to stay there unless they know they have funding.

Buzz Williams seems to have professional wunderlust, in general.

Only one year at New Orleans, then he leaves to become an assistant at Marquette. Gets the HC job one year later, after Crean leaves for IU. After 6 years, he leaves for VA. Tech.

5 years there, he goes to A &M. He just completed 6 years there, when he took the Maryland job.

I believe there's also been rumors of Buzz taking other jobs during those times, as well.

He's not on the Larry Brown level, but it does seem like he doesn't like to stay at any one place for too long. Maybe that changes at Maryland, bit who can be sure?
