(NCAA-WEST/Providence) #10 Arkansas, Sat., Mar. 22, 2:40p, CBS

Tough loss and I wish we could have made the Sweet 16 but going 31-5, winning the BEC and BET means we had a great run this year.

Disappointing because we are better than we showed today. Most importantly, we are back to national prominence and our coach, staff, AD, university President and NIL $s will make sure we are back stronger next year.

Thanks to the players, staff and Coach Pitino for a fantastic ride.

I watched the game in San Antonio with a bunch of alumni* and we are delighted to see us get back to being respectable and know that we will build on this.

*Funniest thing today was someone yelling "where's the picnic?" and "table cloth" at Calipari's jacket!

What the hell are you talking about? I don't have a guilty conscience. About what exactly? Just because we disagree you're getting personal. And don't tell me to stop voicing my opinion about today's game. Do you think I'm hiding from the hits? I've been responding to all of your comments for the last hour. I'm here. I'm not hiding. Again, stop with the generalities. Be specific. How exactly am I voicing a morality lesson? All I've been saying is that the team played like crap today against Arkansas.
I do not remember you posting this frequently after any of the wins. You seem to be reveling in this.

The bottom line is we won 31 games...the Big East and the Big East tournament. We won a game in the NCAAs by 30 points. I enjoyed the season and I enjoyed wearing St John's gear around town without getting sympathetic stares. Strangers stopped to talk. Everyone was upbeat. My hope...that we never again go through something like "25 years since this...40 years since that". The program is here to stay.

Thank you Father Shanley...Coach Pitino and your big time top shelf assistants...and to this team of wonderful players who left their guts on the floor game after game. You were fun to root for.

Well said!

We had 3 assists in the fist half…….nuff said!
Sadly, Pitino couldn't land Walter Clayton because he would have solved all our backcourt problems and likely, like at Florida, would have led us to the Sweet 16.
Oh well, likely all new backcourt next year to provide better outside shooting.

I gave it a few hours before I commented. Obviously disappointed. Give Ark credit, their length gave SJU fits. Boogie is terrific. They were a 10 seed on resume not on talent. They are no 10 seed on talent.

As bad as they played I really thought when they had the ball twice late down 2, 62-60 and 66-64 I think, that if they could tie it would change the complexion of the game. RJ forced a bad shot on one and I think Zuby had a good baseline look and wanted a foul on the other miss and didn't get it.

But I can't be mad. What a season, what a team. I love RJ I feel terrible about how he ended a tremendous season. If he comes back great if not he I hope he kills it at the next level. Kadary, Aaron, Deivon all played great and played thru injuries. Great respect for all of them...

We back.

The reality is the Big East was down this year and didn’t really prepare us to play games like this while the SEC and B10 ran the gauntlet and saw high level size and athleticism every night. It’s clear that Arkansas’ size and athleticism is something that affected us because we didn’t have experience playing against it. I think if we saw teams like that more frequently we would have handled it far better than we did today.

Perhaps the perception of how good this team is was slightly inflated because the league was so down this year. Maybe it wasn’t and we just had a bad night.

Regardless, it was an amazing season and one we’ll hopefully remember as the one that started the streak of us being consistently relevant again.

First off you’re F’n disgrace who has axe to grind and does it after we lose in amazing season. Is this Rob Parker? God bless you. Mike Repole was never spending money on the program if Ricks not hired. I like Shaheen he’s a good coach but if they don’t get it together for him at Hall he’s going be on unemployment line.
Yup. Sha is 0-3 getting into the dance for a team that lived there for half a decade when he took over.

He also just presided over one of the biggest embarrassments in league history. Does anyone think that team has 2 league wins, NIL or not, with Pitino coaching? Please.

Again you're assuming. You don't know what you're talking about. My father graduated from St. John's in 1940. I graduated from St John's in 1969. I had season tickets and went to more games than I can remember. I bleed St. John's red as much as you do. The reason I didn't post as much after wins is because the many knowledgeable members on this site posted everything I would say. So there was no reason to repeat the inciteful points. For you to imply I'm not an avid St. John's fan is unmitigated bullsh**t and insulting. You ought to be ashamed of yourself for even implying this.

All of you should take a breath, or maybe a night off, before you post. That's what I'm doing.

I definitely have some hot takes about things I don't like. But how does it help the program for me to type them out? It doesn't, so I'm not.

I am so ashamed. You should see me right now as I tightly clutch my pearls.

Agree. On paper Arkansas had higher rated talent and we didn't see the Boogie Fland that may be a #1 draft pick.
It would be great to build around Zuby and RJ but RJ isn't NBA ready and a southern school may break the bank to get him. He needs another year.
Rick may trade one Euro for another to bolster outside shooting but getting an elite guard is going to be a priority.
Let the speculation begin.

Interesting note:

Auburn ‘22: 2 seed, lost to the 10 seed in R32 by 18
Auburn ‘23: 8 seed, lost to the 1 seed by 20
Auburn ‘24: 4 seed, lost to 13 seed yale
Auburn ‘25: sweet 16 and counting as overall 1

Doubt Auburn was taking Pearl to task in 22 or 24 as much as some of our fan base is with Pitino - and Bruce hasn’t won a title!

+ this and Paultz’s post a few earlier

Today stunk. The over analyzing is what happens after a loss. We played poorly as a group save for Zuby and Smith in spurts, but couldn’t withstanding a tough game for RJ and Richmond not being out there. Him fouling out changed the game because of what he brought at the end of every game on both ends.

Still, unbelievable season. As a season ticket holder, the MSG games were parties. So much fun. Two titles. Won a game in the dance. Would I have felt better going to the Sweet 16 and losing to a really good Tech team? Yes.

But nothing today takes away from the amazing year by our staff, players and fans. This team was so much fun to root for and thank god we have the Shanley/Pitino/Kull regime going forward.

Three things.

It's hard to win when two of your three best players have the worst games of the season.

It's hard to win when you miss layups on a regular basis.

The BE is not a physical conference and for the first time this year we faced a physical team and couldn't handle it. Kadary and RJ's games are predicated on getting to the rim an Ark swallowed them up when they tried.

I think if you replace physical with athletic then I agree with you.

Brutal press conference. Pitino really was nasty to RJ. Saying Zuby, Kadary and Scott were responsible for the successful season and purposely excluding RJ. The kid had a lousy game and definitely plays too much hero ball. But he seems to be a great kid and we wouldn’t have had half the season if it weren’t for him. In this day and age, it wouldn’t shock me if Luis portals.
He mentioned his three seniors. I wouldn't read anything else into it.
