(NCAA-WEST/Providence) #10 Arkansas, Sat., Mar. 22, 2:40p, CBS

Interesting note:

Auburn ‘22: 2 seed, lost to the 10 seed in R32 by 18
Auburn ‘23: 8 seed, lost to the 1 seed by 20
Auburn ‘24: 4 seed, lost to 13 seed yale
Auburn ‘25: sweet 16 and counting as overall 1

Doubt Auburn was taking Pearl to task in 22 or 24 as much as some of our fan base is with Pitino - and Bruce hasn’t won a title!
Bruce Pearl is a great coach but as sleazy as they come.

Didn't read a lot of this thread, and don't want to. Especially after reading a poster report that haters who stayed silent all year are posting their negativity and making a tough ending even worse. I really thought a final four was a possibility. It sucks, and it's heartbreaking, but that doesn't change what an unexpected wonderful ride it was. For those lucky enough to be at MSG, you got to see confetti everywhere and our guys cutting the nets. I saw it on TV, and was overwhelmed with emotion. As long as CRP stays, more good years will be ahead.

I live in Tucson and have had season tix to University of Arizona games for 20 or so years. I have worn my SJU gear to many games this year. One night I had on my vintage St. Johns's Redmen hat and two guys came up to said welcome back to the national stage and that hat is a collectors item. At 77 years of age and 'a '67 graduate it felt great after 25 years in the wilderness. Hope to see many more before the good Lord takes me...We are back !!!!

Billy Richmond had his career best game today. Career high 16 points and 9 rebs.

The odds of a Richmond dictating this game today and it not being for SJU were +2500

I'm still numb after being at this game. My takeaways from it. Smith played his heart out but was still hobbled by the shoulder; even sits in the bench with a protective wrap. This did not look like the same st john's team or game, with much credit due to Arkansas who played more aggressively than us from the opening tip. And with the two early fouls against kadary we never got into any rhythm. Not sure about sitting Luis at end of game; I thought coaches like to go with the horses that got them there.

And gotta say I wish at least one coach or player smiled or acknowledged the fans who waited for an hour at the send off at the hotel.

Jay Wright the first 2 years of the new configured BE 2013-14 and 2014-15 went 16-2 twice winning the regular season both times and winning BET in 2015.

They were a 2 seed in 2014 and a 1 seed in 2015. Neither team got out of the 2nd round.

Danny Hurley did not win an NCAA Tourney game in 2021 and 2022 losing in 1st round both times before he won it in 2023.

It happens.

Terrible end to the season but it can’t ruin the great season SJU had. Just imagine if SJU performed against Omaha like they did today. Shooting 28 per cent wouldn’t beat too many teams and that was missing shots from 2,12 and 22 ft.
Continuing that no tournament win streak would have been a disaster.

Not when you're a 2 seed against a 10 seed.

Arkansas is not a typical 10 seed. They have too much talent to have had the miserable season they had this year. First year coach with entirely new roster syndrome. Remember they were a top 15 team preseason. They brought in the top portal class in the country and the #3 recruiting class in the country. 2 guys who were major contributors for Elite 8 teams, 3 top 30 frosh, and 2 highly rated guys who came with Cal from UK plus ivisic. They haven't played to potential all year. Not saying this excuses the loss, just that to imply that Arkansas just some 10 seed is incorrect. They can beat any team any night. Just didn't do it often enough to get a higher seed.

They also had injuries this season and their best player Thiero didn’t even play.

All I know is anytime in the future they get a top three seed in the West Region I'll have nightmares. Each time they had that they lost in the second round in 1986, 2000 and today. It's one of those truly quirky and coincidental things.

While watching the various podcasts before the tourney started, someone mentioned St. John's may not go far based on some stat that showed 2 seeds that were un-ranked preseason often exited earlier than expected. Not even sure why that is.

Another stat mentioned, I think on CBS, that in over 200 matchups between a 2 and 10 seed, no 10 seed ever held a 2 seed to under 30% shooting. Until today.
