Forgot where I read it but a week or two ago I saw someone say that Tanner is who Hubert was pushing for for that role. Not sure if that means anything for Hubert's status

Possible but feel Hubert has little influence and this would be AD's hire.

Yep, this probably would have happened regardless of Hubert's input but perhaps Tanner talks them into one ride of him and Hubert together and then reassess after that
