@#19 Connecticut, Fri., Feb. 7, 8p, FOX

I work in New Braunfels. Salt Lick is very good (aside from the UT crowd) but I haven't been in a while. Coopers is my go-to these days. The Hill Country is a great place to be Oct-May; summer is tough!
I am at Wurstfest every year in New Braunfels. I do some side photography for one of the bands in the Grosse Tent

Analytics be damned, games are played, won and lost, on the court, not on a computer. Jack Williams is 100% correct, this team has a chance, no question. Unless “adjusted efficiency” has figured out a way to accurately measure, heart, will to win, and just good old fashioned BIG BALLS, I’ll go with the eye test.
Doesn’t mean they are favorites, means they have a chance.
And one other immeasurable factor, I have ripped both players here and don’t take a word back, but on the other side of that evaluation coin, very few teams have two guys with the ability and flat out fearlessness to perform at the end of close, intense games like Richmond and Luis.
Oh, no prediction, certainly no guarantee, but this team has a chance, a very real one.

I love how in the MSG rematch Zubs will have something to prove against these guys. Not his best night, it happens. But still fought hard

Zuby was knocked to the floor

Zuby was knocked to the floor more times than a NHL Hockey player . It looked like he was playing on ice skates .

Reed and Johnson mugged him on almost every play . McNeeley too .

By the way , since I mentioned Hockey , has anyone ever noticed how slippery the Garden BB Court is ?
Players are slipping all the time on the Court over the Ice .

Listening to Gus makes me wish Lappas was doing the game.

Agree, since Jay Wright retired and Villanova is down he has moved on to UCONN. He practically jumped into
our living rooms when UCONN took the big lead. He got real quiet and subdued when we bounced back. Thought
Jackson was even keel and fair. Used to be a Gus fan not much anymore

I love this team. A bunch of junkyard dogs. But, I recognize that the 3 is a big part of the game. Average 3pt % is about 35%. In the last 10 years only 6 teams shooting under 35% made the final four. 6 out of 40. They shot between 32-35%. We are at 29%. If we can find a way to get to average, I think our ceiling rises even more.
Of course shooting better increases chances but there are different ways to win games. I am not hung upon how a team scores, there is only one meaningful stat IMO, the final score.

Coach Bob Walsh gets a game ball for his last possession out of bounds play with 3 seconds on the clock. Apparently calls all out of bounds plays, a key responsibility.

With only 3 seconds Luis came off the baseline behind a Zuby pick. Breaking hard towards the middle McNeely had no choice but to overplay in that direction to stop the pass in a wide open middle. Once he committed, Luis cut back quickly behind a great pic by Zubs, caught an easy inbounds pass for a wide open look that he buried. McNeely was hopelessly stuck behind the pick.

McNeely's guess was much like a tennis players guessing after a lob where his opponent will hit an overhand. Guess right and the play is busted, but in this case guessing there was another option if RJ broke over the middle or was covered.

It worked so great because it was bang bang to create a shot in 3 seconds.

Kudos to Coach Walsh using his Regis smarts.

Now, watch I am wrong about who drew that up.

Pitino pointed out that Walsh drew up the play. He then talked about what a great staff he had and credited them all for this seasons success. This was during the Post game presser. Good to see giving them credit.

Agree 100%. I don't watch SEC basketball religiously, but I watch enough of it that I can tell you nobody in that league plays defense like we do. And anybody who's coached or played can tell you: you can scout an opponent , you can tell your team about their defense, you can try to re-create it in practice...when you get on the court with them it's a whoooole different ballgame. Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee? Bring them on. We can beat any of them.

Agree. Yea we have offensive weaknesses.

But we’re gonna be knocking on the door of being a TOP 5 team this Monday. When that happens, you have to believe this team can do something special. Who knows where this ride takes us but I truly believe we can beat anyone on a given night
