#11 Marquette (MSG), Tue., Feb. 4, 6:30p, FS-1

I would guess that you are correct re RJ leaving, but I just don't get the mindset. He is not on the 2 round mock draft list that was out 3 days ago, With the need to shoot threes in the NBA, I see RJ's % from 3 as a problem for him. Maybe another year of college ball helps him. He still can learn a lot from CRP. Have no idea what his NIL money is, but wouldn't it compare favorably even with a 2 way NBA contract?

Just to stay on topic, this game had to be on our cumulative minds every since the team showed they can achieve something special. Assuming it's the same for the players. That's why I expect our guys to be more focused than ever for this game.
If we make a deep March run, that's where some kids have their NBA draft stock soar. Not saying that will happen, but remembered how Carlos Beltran hit 7 or 8 playoff homers in his walk year and changed his trajectory in terms of interest and $$$.

Love the video posted here and on X of the guys talking to their fellow students about attending. As I said earlier attendance doesn’t look great but will be all Johnnies fans and our core group knows how important this game is.

I’ll reserve my ‘must win’ games for Mid March.
Winning or losing to Marquette won’t change that.
Marquette and Uconn are nationally ranked and talented with excellent coaching.
It would be considered a success to split with them....but I prefer to win at home as a reward to our loyal fan base. It would make that long LIRR train ride home much more enjoyable.

I see many posts making fun of my MUST WIN mantra. It’s too bad that the several posters who agree are afraid to post it for fear of condemnation of the popular guys. 🤪 To those who have, congrats….. you have your own mind, to those who agree with my stance but have not …… It is far easier to be a sheep then follow your own path.

Look at the bright side. People get remembered for different things. You are now known as Must Win Donovan. Wear It like a badge of honor. Whenever someone says must win they are going to think of you

What is your def of must win? Are you saying st johns season is over if they lose on Tuesday?

As I said Mike, I’ve never used that phrase before for any other game. But I just feel, given the timing and the circumstance this is such an important win for the program to take that next step of credibility. Zach B said as such in his article as have many others. So for this game I will wear it proudly. 😎👍 The must win mostly refers to the teams credibility among fans nationally. Many on here just don’t get that.

I never said that. My point was this. Right now the team has had a bunch of wins, some good wins some very good but no marquee wins that really will make people look and say, now that’s a great team, they beat so and so. In our only top 20 match up to date….. Baylor we lost. So as Zach B stated many hoops fans who look will say, who have they beaten to earn such a lofty ranking?

Also, I believe it’s a must win to have a realistic shot of winning the conference. The road games at Yukon and Marquette and Creighton are difficult. If you want to win the conference, these home wins are a must.

So if they lose tom and win fri, was it still a must win game?

I sort of agree with you Silly. However, I do believe you lose to Marq .(I think we win) but you can recover by taking down Yukon or Marq last game on the road. Must Win is just a little strong. There is a path to recovery. Although decidedly more difficult.

I am from the school of “one game at a time.” Play that game and move on to the next. Don’t worry about who is on the horizon, worry about the one who is right in front of you. That is how you avoid “trap games”

While not a player, as a fan, I will focus my energy on the next game, not who we play on Friday or the one after that or the one after that, whomever that is.

I could care less about the spread or Ken Pom or whatever metrics there are. Just take care of business and business will take care of itself.

Reading this Site, every game this year (or just about) has been a “must win game” which is beyond ludicrous (and I don’t mean the rapper). Tuesday night an important game? Sure as winning keeps you in sole possession of first place, gives you a two game lead and you hold serve with a win. But a must win? Does it knock us out of first place? Does it eliminate an opportunity to go the Dance? The answer to those two questions is no. It doesn’t even knock us out of the top 25, probably not even the top 20.

Enjoy the ride folks and stop dissecting and over analyzing everything.
In fact-definitely not a must win, but psychologically for us fans, it will be a confirmation of what ŵe have hoped or feared.

We have 5 games left against UCONN, Marquette, and Creighton 3 of which are at home. Win 3 of those and we are golden. We have already shown we can win on the road.

Yes, remember there are two parts to my rationale. It may not be a must win in winning the conference if we can steal a few away games but it’s still a must win for our current credibility. The Johnnies are ranked 12, they are home, lots of motivation to win and everyone is healthy. Let’s show the country, (and some high level HS recruits) THE JOHNNIES BELONG. Ask yourself this…… what do you think the headlines will read if they don’t beat Marquette tomorrow? Not very complimentary, I’m sure, and you can guess what they will say, especially the NY press. 🤬
