DePaul (UBS), Tue., Feb. 6, 6:30p, FS-1

One more thing. Pitino after the DeP game gave high praise to Uconn's Spencer even comparing him to John Halicek (OMG).

Not for nothing, Havlicek was much better Bill Bradley but like Bradley, constantly, every single possession moving without the ball and getting back door layups or open jump shots. Never staying in one spot the entire 24 second clock.

CRP sounded like he wants Dingle to pattern his game after Spencer, Havlicek, (Bradley, another Ivy Leauger) and Cam Spencer. I couldn't believe how effusive Rick was over Spencer (portal possibility?)
He should have effusive about Spencer. As I said in another thread I wish we had a player like hin- A very heady player who always comes up big for them.

I dispute the statement that Queens and L.I. make up the majority of the fanbase.
Have to comment on this queens and Long Island thing as I always have to when I hear it referenced this way lol.

Brooklyn and queens are just as much a part of Long Island as montauk is lol.

I know ppl refer to them separately as Brooklyn and queens are the city and ppl refer to Nassau and Suffolk as Long Island.

But geographically speaking….

Depaul was not the game to try that. Almost any other team would have drawn exponentially better. Depaul should have always and in the future be a CA game, or maybe a HS gym game, from here on out until they prove otherwise. Doesn't mean the idea of playing at USB was bad but the execution was horrid.
Double edged sword though, because I fear if we play a better team there we run higher risk of losing (of course this can be said about any venue lol. Better team higher chance of losing? What a concept jack smh)

The seton hall game will be very interesting. Not only to see the turnout but to see how we play and if we end up with any real home court advantage in a game that we are going to need badly

I don't think CRP was thinking in those terms. I think he thought the team would be in a better place by now and catch the NYC market by storm (;)), and that Carnesseca would be too small for us by 2024. He overestimated his team's talent and where they would be now, while also underestimating how much it would take to really get the fan base engaged to fill arenas throughout the season.

If he was thinking in the term you stated, then we should just play every game at Carnesseca.

Well, they are the City- they are two of the five Boroughs that make up the City!

Yes. But they are part of Long Island and referenced as separate from Long Island often.
Reminded me of a scene in an old movie.

From the movie “Guadalcanal Diary” (1943)

Marines at war, with some downtime to listen to the radio:

And now for the world of sports.

All right, pipe down.

The Yanks"ll murder them guys.

- Aloysius T Pots talking for the Yanks?

- New York"s my hometown, ain"t it?

Since when did Flatbush
become part of New York?

Who said anything about Flatbush being
part of New York? lt"s just vicey-versey.

Do people actually like Barclays over UBS? The one time I was at Barclays wasn't even for a sporting event, and I had what would be considered great seats, and I still found it completely awful. I can't imagine ever wanting to play basketball there.

Not sure there are any DePaul fans. Maybe they masqueraded as empty seats, then they outnumbered us 5 to1.

I've never been to USB Arena as I live in NJ and only the Garden games are my thing except occasionally CA to see the 114 crew.

Barclays, let the ACC and A-10 have their Tournaments there, been there and even though I lived in that Borough for 25 years, I found Barclays soul less.

I can't comment on USB (done on purpose) since I haven't been there. From things 114 crew say, it is very nice. $45 parking if that is true is very steep. MJMJr do they have Bronx IPA, that makes all the difference?
The difference for me at UBS is 2 things. The ease of the railroad and quickness of it and the shuttle bus taking you directly to the Arena.

And the Amex Lounge across from 101 where you get free admission with an Amex card and a FREE drink

As a Queens native and living in Suffolk for the last 30 years, I agree. But if you live in the city, many City dwellers consider l anything above the Bronx as upstate and Westchester l, Dutchess and Orange County are not.

Fun fact. Did you know the Supreme Court ruled that Long Island legally should be treated as a Peninsula ? That's how my team at work decided on our team name :)

My sister used to work with a bunch of bumpkins in Sag Harbor who considered upstate to be anything past Riverhead. 😁

I don’t get all the hate for UBS it is a brand new Arena with way more leg room and real seats and it’s not 10,000 degrees in there. I hate going to games at the school and having my knees in my chest for two hours and sitting on high school bleachers. I have went to both UBS games and will be at the Seton Hall game as well.
