@Xavier, Wed., Jan. 31, 6:30p, FS-1

Luis looked terrible.

Taylor looked bad.

Alleyne looked badly hobbled and still — sadly — is 2-3x the defender anyone else is. I hope he rubs off on Wilcher.

Jenkins was actually great for the first 38 minutes.

Soriano was almost unstoppable.

Nobody has been able to stay in front of Claude in 2 games and he’s around for 2 more years after this season.

Xavier is going to be a top 25 team next year.

Miller’s inside the huddle was tremendous and Pitino needs to watch it and discuss it with Soriano.

Thought we’d lose this so not too upset but I’m not happy with the three when Soriano wasn’t missing, we were in the double bonus, and their center fouled out. It’s a basketball play.
It's insane that we had 2 players who had outstanding games, and we couldn't manage to get any significant contribution from the other 10.

Show the screenshot of the shot he took.

It’s not the last possession of the game. It’s 230 left. In rhythm and open. Not a step back. Had 2 of the best offensive rebounders in the country headed to the plaint and was having a great night shooting. It was not this disaster of a shot you are claiming it was.
I remember thinking Soriano was running a pick at the time and couldn’t get into good rebounding position near the basket by the time Jenkins got off the 3, but if he was down there, I agree it wasn’t a terrible shot.

At the same time, can you disagree with his bigger point, which is they just fouled out X’s big and Soriano was dominating the dudes they were throwing at him. It was a complete mismatch and Soriano was going to score or get fouled every time. Not continuing to pound it inside after the foul out does fall a bit on pitino. (And I think the only reason we were even close in this game was Jenkins’ play, so I’m not a hater.)

Did anyone else have trouble accessing the video of the postgame press conference on the St. John's website? I can't get it to play.

I think the press hurt us the most. Can only recall one steal by Jenkins which he turned into a basket. Having two and sometimes three defenders in backcourt and getting beat off the dribble and two slow defenders back to defend against much quicker guards resulted in multiple layups. Pitino should have called off the press. I know this because I coached CYO girls 8 years.

I think this is the biggest problem. We don’t have the athleticism in the back court to generate turnovers.

Even Alleyne, who I sing songs of defensively, is not a steals guy or even a shutdown one on one guy. He is just a phenomenal positional defender who recovers and helps at an elite level.

We don’t get the easy points that typical Pitino teams get.

We lost this game down 77-75 when Jenkins shot a stupid three instead of getting it to Soriano, who had a backup on him. It was a low IQ play. It’s just bad basketball.

Jenkins then gave up back to back threes to Olivari to make it 83-75. Guards have basically scored at will on Jenkins all year so I rarely bring up his defense as there is nothing he can do. He tries really hard…he’s just not physically talented.

He also had a rebound go right through his arms that I don’t fault him for due to his lack of strength.
He can control his decision-making, however.

Nonsense .

Home life makes watching a game real time tough- so I watch taped (if not attending). Watching this game late night knowing the outcome- different things stand out.

In the beginning of the game- it looked like our communication and chemistry was off, and that's fine... what I find distressing is the seeming "complaining/annoyance" between the guys... one that stood out was between Luis/Soriano on a turnover. Sim seemed distressed after his 2nd foul and never saw the floor again... At this juncture in the season- i would hope the guys would be encouraging each other esp after a mistake... They are a "veteran" bunch- would expect better "comradery"... hopefully this stands out in the film sess and the vets get it together....

What was an overall 'rough' game for the guys.... it was tied up with under 3 to go. We were "there" - Game came down to last 8 possessions...

10-2.. 30 seconds left.

Why they didn't go to Joel each time down... learning opportunity

Onto UConn

How do you explain the 13-2 X run in the last 2minutes and 37 seconds ?
Jenkins probably was responsible for that too?

Dingle got his free throws on his 3 point attempts as I recall and he dunk most of them.

It’s not Jenkins fault that Dinkle cannot blow by defenders and score . You never mention that .

And , he can’t Handle his defensive assignments . Which is why RP has little confidence in him 🇹.

If you notice over the course of the season , Dingle and RP have little chemistry . Pitino constantly shoots arrows at him .
Last night , when he took Dingle out , he literally ripped him a new one .
You can blame Jenkins all you want but , Dingle has shown he’s only a All Star against Columbia , Dartmouth etc .,

If he thought he was going to use this as leap into the NBA, he’s mistaken .
Pitino may be having buyers remorse when comparing Dingle vs. Jenkins in NIL $$.

Kind of silly IMO that Soriano suddenly has become the 2nd coming of Kareem, he had a good 2nd half, no question, but Jenkins was 11-15, 2-3 from 3 when he took a good shot that missed, period end of story………….

I’ve said it wasn’t a great shot. Point was It’s nowhere near the abomination my guy marillac is making it out to be.
