Zendon, Felipe, etc. discussion

Zendon was so frustrating to watch he could have all 5 defenders on him and still force up a ridiclous shot rather then pass.

Question from a stat guy - Is Zendon the only St Johns player with a 20pt 10reb season since Walter Berry back in 1986?

Im not positive CR. But i think Jayson Williams came close if not surpassed those numbers

Jayson's best year (2nd of three, don't remember if he was officially a soph or jr) he was 19.5/7.9, career he was 14.9/6.8. Zendon's peak year (soph) he averaged 20.8/10.3. Career he was 15.9/8.3.

The worst was watching this 6'11" bag of arms and legs bring the ball down to his waist to shoot.

Unfortunately, Zendon was proof that there is only stat that matters, W's and L's.

In hindsight, we probably should have expected it before he even arrived on campus -- Sewanhaka never made any noise in the playoffs. I'm not sure he ever got them past the quarterfinals, and one year he sat out a playoff loss because some kids from another school threatened him.

Didn't Jayson hurt his ankle in his soph year?

Z had a lot of issues with his game, but people forget that he AVERAGED almost a double double at SJU. Somethihg like 16 points and 8 plus rebounds over 4 years. Not bad.

Just curious, was Zendon considered a top 50 recruit within his class?

He and Felipe were McDonald All Stars; game was played at Alumni Hall. Can you believe that?

I was there, and Felipe was the best guy on the court. Zendon hit the deck a lot in that game.

Reid, Greer, and Foyle also played, so good showing for New York and New Jersey.

1994.

I've been sorting through all the many photos I took over the years - used to attend a practice with camera in hand back when there was not so much secrecy and entanglements - the doors were more opened, anyway

have great photos of John Wooden, Zendon and Felipe all signed - all taken at Alumni Hall - One day I'd like to give Coach Lavin a Wooden, Alumni Hall signed (at McDonald's All Star game etc.) - from what I see he might very well want that one in his office -

in fact Coach Wooden gave me his home address, we corresponded and I sent him some copies for his family - what a nice experience

also have Malik Sealy and others, Bootsy, Postel…great memories…have every staff from Brian through Norm - maybe - if I get through current day Alumni Hall customs and homeland security - I will gain an opportunity to photo Lavin and company…whatever...

I only wish I had started with the camera in the 1970s and 1980s - imagine all the other great players???

We are in the midst of such a resurgence of SJU Basketball! for that I'm grateful

all the best & thanks for letting me to share a little

Yikes I'm old.

My buddy and I were behind Felipe's family. They were going nuts.

It was a great atmosphere.

I don't recall much about the game, but I remember rushing home (from grabbing a bite to eat with my siblings) to watch it.
