Zach's Big East Summer Power Ratings

Stating the obvious, but the third consistent scoring option is so crucial on this team. Invariably one of dynamic duo of Heron & Figueroa will at some point miss games due to injury or usual “mystery absences”, putting a ton of pressure on the healthy one at the time. It is so important to keep defenders honest. Here’s hoping Wright steps up with clean slate and evidences ability he was thought to have. Williams perhaps blossoms as well, but to me Wright is wild card.

Agree, having some upper classmen, especially at the 1-3 spots should really help. I’d love one more big guy so we aren’t victimized inside. With a new defensive and offensive style, I think we might be able to fare a bit better. That 5-out, no rebounding philosophy cost us a lot of games, especially when teams zoned us etc. Shamorie was an incredible scorer, but not really a true PG. I think somewhere in the 7-9 range is accurate. Gonna be interesting because we will be playing an entirely different brand of basketball, with much different bench usage etc. certainly a lot of new looks to anticipate.

Without question this last ship should go to whoever has the most offensive upside. To me regardless of position.

More options you have the increased odds someone rises up as a 3/4 option.

Honestly, with Steere, Williams and Wright, I believe we will have the offensive options we need (along with our 2 stars), so I would, like a banger or at least a guy with some height who can rebound, defend interior and score a little. I would not want to see another guard or wing for 2019. But, again, whatever makes the most sense at this time in terms of fit, availability etc. is what we should do.

Totally agree on Wright. He is such a wild card; I've not heard much about his game or if anyone on redmen.co has seen him play. He was highly recruited and his frosh shooting stats were not bad at all, but fell off in second year. I'm hoping he thrives with fast paced style and second chance to prove himself. I also expect Williams to thrive in MA's system, but he may be a year away from being a consistent offensive option.
Too early to make predictions on where we finish. I'll wait until October to make my wild guess on that.

Agree ... and as I noted in another thread, Heron and LJ staying out of foul trouble will be crucial.

My prediction is that, however reasonable they sound now and without even considering the first year coaching issues, there will be some complainers and nay-sayers who step up over and over throughout the season.

We haven't won a tournament game in 20 years. Complainers are the symptom, not the cause.

Also agree on Wright being important as a potential 3rd option - nobody mentioning Caraher, could he also potentially surprise and play that role?

for all the reasons you gave, it is going to be " interesting" AND exciting. I am so much looking forward to 2019-2020.

That would be one of the biggest surprises I've ever had as a fan, because I don't think he gives us more than 5 ppg.

Is that based on what folks are seeing or hearing about how he looks in practices? He's certainly a more proven scorer than Wright at this level (albeit in a lower conference).

Based mostly on what we're not hearing -- in the entire time he's been here, there hasn't been any praise for him from the staff, team mates, sportswriters, or guys who've managed to sit in on practices.

So he’s definitely not Max Hooper, but it’s also possible that he is Max Hooper.

Caraher is not Max Hooper and thank God for that.

Constant complainers make the site unreadable. As soon as we lose one game they think we shouldn't, we will be overwhelmed with nonsense. Idiocy is the cause and symptom.

I actually think that if we get another serviceable front court player that we can finish in the top half of the Big East this year if things break right for us. Meaning, Heron and Figgy step into larger roles, Steere and Wright play up to their rankings, Caraher being able to knock down some threes and Roberts and Williams show improvement going into their sophomore years. Not to mention how much better the coaching will be where there will be an actual system with defined roles and objectives dictating a specific style of play. I know it's a lot to ask but it could happen. I have faith in this staff. Just my opinion, I know many on here will disagree.

Agree that "could" happen but a lot to ask for that many things to break our way. Still think that with current roster we finish bottom 3 in conference and that is with liking our new coach.

I'd rather be underestimated, then overestimated.

Steere's ranking was close to 150, what exactly would it mean to play up to his ranking in his first year in D1 ball (besides the 5 mins in 1 game last year, which he killed in BTW)
