Zach Braziller

Totally agree with you Moose.

But I am thinking that had a little bit to do with it. Definitely agree that the Zach article lit a fire under the staff to get out there.

To even think that Lavin and staff changed because of that article is totally absurd. There is very little actual recruiting that goes on in January due to the fact that schools are starting their conference schedule. Because we were 0-5 in January Lavin and staff concentrated on righting the ship and we finished the season 11-3.
Zach was fed BS by someone who saw an opportunity to come down on Lavin because of their own agenda.

Moose, sounds like you are still unhappy with Lavin.

I don't like all the surrounding stuff. The cliches, the analogies, its not even coach speak. Its white noise to me honestly at this point. That's it. I don't care who is coach just win baby. He can attract a level of player we haven't seen here in a long long time. If he can minimize some of the inbalances in the roster construction and player development a bit we will be in business. I support this team and Lavin to the fullest. Doesn't mean I cant express some dissatisfaction in some things that are said or done.

*I know it might be hard for some to believe but reporters have legit sources. The irony that after the article was written our staff was all over the road recruiting again. It sure spurred something.

Bingo. Zach wasn't wrong at all about the lack of presence on the recruiting trail from Lavin (related: Chiles had been grinding and that wasn't a reflection on him). I agree with Moose that the more realistic way to look at it is that the article might've publicly lit a fire in that he needs to be out there more, even though traditionally Lavin comes in more as a "closer".

Plenty of other schools were out recruiting. The article referred to a major event in Mass that week where we had no presence but schools from as far as the left coast made it the day after they played games.

yeah, the unamed coach sources for Lavin recruiting failures and problems at SJU with Lavin turned out to be completely false.
Since then he has changed his tune.

You say that with such conviction.
The source within SJU was as legit as legit can get, I can assure you.
One thing I never understood is those who go back and either A- brag about past statements/predictions or B- revels in someone who was 'wrong'.

The source may have been legit but the information was BOGUS, especially the part about Lavin's heart not being into coaching at St Johns and just going through the motions. Maybe this legit source had his own agenda and was using Zach as a tool.
One thing I never understood was someone saying something negative about a person and not being MAN or WOMAN enough to attach their name to it.

Great post.

Isaiah and his mother have been said to be very good people. He welcomed her to twitter and some fan made himself look like a jerk with that comment. He picked Seton Hall who cares, he has a right to go where ever he wants, move on. I think Zach has been great and very fair

Great post.

But you just said earlier you wanted to be anonymous in an article and didn't want your name associated with a quote :)

The staff should always be out recruiting as hard as every other program. The fact that it came up in a NY Post article raises a red flag. True or not it is embarrassing. Until we sign someone this spring, I will consider the 2014 class a lost opportunity. Lavin does seem more upbeat lately and I hope he can come through for us if his contract is extended. Right now all I care about is beating Providence and playing our absolute best against Villanova.

No, I just expect someone I know personally to tell me when our conversation is on record and being used for a story.

You and Otis.

I noticed this morning that Zach is already pumping Isiah Whitehead's mother and Seton Hall on twitter.

Also noticed somebody called her Mrs. Tiny Morton and Zach got very upset.

I wonder if this more to come in the future of negative articles on SJU and him trying to pump up seton hall.

I also think he is a kid trying to make a name for himself.

You really are the definition of a troll. YOU are the one who made the inappropriate reference to Mrs Tiny Morton. Remember, these are 17 and 18 year old kids. You can leave stuff like that out of it. Grow up.

To be clear, we know it was you. Stop stirring the pot and enjoy the games.

Too little too late? .... Just filling the roster with bodies won't do anything to solve the roster imbalance. Unless the kids he signs this year can actually play major roles in a year or two, we'll be back to being the youngest team in the country/world/universe.
