Yukon looking to rekindle Big East rivalries

The 2014-15 season was the first time in three decades that Yukon’s men’s basketball team went an entire season without playing a single game in Madison Square Garden so of course, it now wants StJohn's to give them that opportunity to come to town and use the Garden to recruit.

I hope StJohns and the other Big East schools refuse to schedule Yukon.

They looked for greener$$ pastures and instead found no takers. Pass.

BTW, was watching Yankees Old Timers ceremonies on TV. Prominent on the left field monitor was "Syraacuse - New York City's team" ad. C'mon, Bobby G. - spend some marketing dough to reclaim the city.

As some here might know, I hate Pukon. I hope they never get to play in the Garden ever again!

The real question is, does a cash strapped SJU take the bait an opt for the revenue of a garden filled with 15,000 mostly UCONN fans?

I hate Uconn as much as anyone but I do miss the rivalry. I say lets play them and pack the Garden. Its also a good recruiting tool for SJU when we play in a packed rocking house.

I say wait another year or 2. Let Mullin get the team firing on all cylinders, then invite them in to the lion's den and devour them!

I love to hate Uconn. I hate them but its so much fun playing them because of that. I totally agree with you on this lets wait a year or two while we get better under Mullin and they get worse in the AAC. Then bring them into MSG and beat the stuffing out of them like in 2011.

I hope we don't "cave in" Beast!
This week at a college financing expert for my son UConn Grad huge fan
Very reluctantly admitted to UConn's mistake - as with BC Syracuse as well (I know some could argue football prevails etc)
We are going to be terrific with our new splendid Coach and staff but I can accept the fact that we will pack the Garden for some - not all games.

I'd rather play St. Francis, LIU, Fordham, Iona, Wagner, Hofstra, Stonybrook...
Rather than UConn - stay in Storrs, stay in Storrs, stay in Storrs!
Let's give the locals a chance - they are New York not Syracuse, BC, UConn.
And we are New York's team with bright years (as in light years) ahead!
Bring your shades to the Garden.
All the best.

Absolutely not. Do you have any idea the cost of cleaning up 34th Street after all the Yukon fans' livestock are packed back on the buses for the trip home to Storrs?

Let me see if I can get this straight. We already play home and home against Syracuse, a program who twice tried to leave the Big East for the ACC, was turned down the first time but succeeded the second time. A school who boast that its' "New York's Team"

We have scheduled and played Va Tech in the past after they left the Big East for the ACC. This was a few years after the Big East agreed to take them in a year earlier. When it was announced that Va. Tech would be leaving the A-10 for the Big East in two years, the A-10 voted not to allow any Va Tech teams to play in the league's tournaments and make them ineligible for conference awards. BE allowed them in a year early and was repaid by Va. Tech when they jumped to the ACC after Cuse was turned down the first time.

We scheduled and played a Duke program, from the ACC who raided BE teams Miami, Va. Tech, BC, Cuse, Pitt and Louisville.

But we don't want to play UConn because they upgraded their football program (granted for their benefit to get some of that Bowl money but with full support and encouragement of the BE who was trying to increase their football size and keep football schools in the Conference for its benefit) . A UConn team who had to leave the BE once it split because the BE wasn't taking any BCS schools when the separation.occurred. (No doubt they would have fled to the ACC if offered the chance but after the other teams left, the basketball schools were going to split from what is now the AAC (not to be confused with the ACC) so again UConn was gong to be out of the BE.

Quite frankly, I'd rather play UConn than those previously mentioned .

I would play them because the game would probably draw a great crowd. If we don't play them Conn can schedule an annual game in MSG vs one of 25 teams and with their fan base draw 14,000.
Games at MSG vs SYR, Conn and Duke played before near capacity crowds are what will help recruit the players this staff are looking for.
Games vs the local teams help them but mean nothing for SJU.

Just go for it. If we don't schedule them someone else will at MSG.

And come on guys- the Syracuse game was the best game in years. It's more fun to beat teams like this and it attracts the casual fans.

You're right, if we don't schedule them, they'll probably end up in some MSG college doubleheader like they have done previously.
