A few things here....
The current problems that the program faces in terms of eligible players falls squarely on the shoulders of this staff. They recruited 4 academic question marks and three didn't pan out. it was a risk, they took it, its didn't work out - there is nothing we can do.
We lost Pollee, nothing you can do there but he would be huge help this year. Just his length and understanding of how the zone works would be great for this group. Also, what would this staff do to have Ron Roberts right now... a long 6'8 forward who is an outstanding rebounder, letting him go was a mistake.
Newsman is right.. . lets thank Mr Reople for putting us in a potentially great situation moving forward instead of whinning about Norm Roberts.
No his point here is that what he inherited in terms of size of recruitng classes was unprecendented. Of course Lavin and company are responsible for all recruitng and everything that occurs on their watch. But they were not responsible for producing 9 openings in 1 class that turned into 11. And yes he took chances but again keep in mind because of such a large class they were recruiting kids in many cases for 4 YEARS. Now think about that. Let's say they recruited some 2 star kids (think of the 08 class of Q Roberts, Ty Edmondson etc). They would probably be here academically but we would be looking to fill those spots in a year anyway because they would have transferred out. There were no quick fixes. They were not going to waste a 4 years schollie on kids who they knew were not going to compete at this level with the type of kids they were recruiting in 2013, 14 etc simply so they could take up court space. So they took a chance or 2. And Tennessee and/or Kansas among others would have signed Jakarr and Norvel as well. They just would not have needed 9 schollies to fill. So would have Louisville.
And it wasn't 4 kids it was 3 and if Amir can get here in a few weeks (and I was told he would be here) that means in a 9 man class 7 made it the first year most of whom were highly rated. I would sign for that. Not perfect but not that bad either. If he had to only produce a 4 man class instead of 9 and he got 3 out of 4 we would be disappointed but not devastated.
The point about harping on this and specifically about Coach Roberts is well taken. Let's move on and leave Coach Roberts alone. We got a coach and we got a good future. No need to keep harping on this.
