Yanks

yanks are on the right path. Playoffs this season were a pipe dream start of the year and we got to see Bird, Severino , and Ref. Keep building through the draft as we shed these albatross contracts. Maybe in a few years add a young, smart signing like Harper. Looking foward to seeing Judge, Mateo and Rookie Davis next season.

I'd say zero chance of Mateo next season.
Likely no to Judge as well as there isn't room.

Bird's probably in the minors next year, too, since Texeira showed you what he can do when healthy this year.

These issues may work themselves out. However, after next year, we start shredding some of the bad deals (Beltran and Tex, plus maybe CC).

I'd say this time last year, many thought there was a zero chance we'd see Severino or Bird up this season, especially since they hadn't spent any real time in Double A. Nor did anyone expect to see Williams (who feel way down on the prospect list and also started this season at Double A) nor Heathcott (who was released off the 40 man roster and resigned later). Mason, Severino and Bird all started this year at Double A. With the injury history of the three starting outfielders, Judge (who also is their only right-handed swinging outfield prospect above Single A) is only a phone call away. I expect to see him by mid season.

I agree we want be seeing Mateo up next year. Hope to see some him some in spring training games.

I agree my comment is based on start of the season. Obviously things like injuries can change things. I don't want Judge here unless he's playing every day though. He needs the AB's. With Beltran in his last year and Arod dominating the DH spot already I dont see where the ABs would come from.

That being said I would definitely put both Gardner and Ellsbury on the block and see if anyone bites.

Congratulations. Sounds like you've turned into the Mets. Try to get rid of bad contracts, play the kids and be satisfied with a wildcard loss. Steinbrenner must be rolling over in his grave.

Next year will basically be the same lineup.

The Yankees have very little money coming off the books following this season. One-year contract guys Stephen Drew ($5M), Chris Capuano ($5M), Garrett Jones ($5M), and Chris Young ($2.5M) will all become free agents. That’s it.

Mark Teixeira and Carlos Beltran will be off the books following the 2016 season, then A-Rod will be gone after 2017 and maybe Masahiro Tanaka as well. CC Sabathia‘s deal will be up after either 2016 or 2017 depending on the health of his shoulder.

After next year we start seeing the kids, unless Cashman can start trading away some of these guys before the trade deadline.

Yanks get Chapman from Reds for 4 prospects. Gotta say this baffles me. All the talk about not trading youth and all. Wonder if it means Miller is gone?

Heard the 4 minor leaguers are avg prospects at best.

Avg is generous. His value really tanked after the incident with the GF.

Granted they are not studs but Jagiello was their first pick in 2013 and Davis is ranked org's #6 by BA. They have much bigger needs than another reliever, albeit a top notch one (emulating the Royals perhaps) who may be facing a significant suspension.

Chapman is a gamble worth taking. His K's/9 innings is off the charts, and today baseball is all about handing the game to your bullpen as early as the 6th inning. This is a move the Mets should have contemplated, and shoring up their own back end of the bullpen should be a priority.
