While the Yankees are the majority shareholder of YES, they currently own less than 30% of the shares. Its management structure is totally different and separate from the structure of the baseball team. Like Cashman on the baseball side, the head of YES and his minions run the operations. Hal might have say over certain operational decisions but this didn’t not come from him. YES’ management team are highly respected individuals most of whom made their bones elsewhere.
This is a restructuring meant to get the best of the on-air talent they have to actually do more on air and cutting down on the rotating casts of thousands they use before, during and after the games while hopefully improving on the content.
While I will miss Flash, I will not miss most of the others who are not returning.
Cashman is still here because the team consistently makes the playoffs, make money and he stays within the financial parameters set by Hal all of which is what he wants.
Boone is still here because he follows the analytics, is not too hard on the players and they make the playoffs which is what Cashman wants.
Of course there is the conspiracy theory that Michael Kay got Flaherty fired.
