The way to improve starts with holding those accountable that have constructed and led this team for years. Both are too comfortable in their positions.
Too many guys think that they are home run hitters. Very poor fundamentals (fielding, base running, hitting approach). They don't seem to be thinking ahead when the game is in progress (game situations).
Modern players are too quick to celebrate instead of running the bases. The athletes of today are better physical specimens, but too often are dumb baseball players, relying strictly on their physical gifts.
So much for dropping standards to allow beards, etc. Next comes stadium naming rights, more uniform patches, multiple different team uniforms designs and colors.
Who goes and who stays? ........

Resign Bellinger, yes, the rest of the free agents can go. And if it were me, I am trading Jazz or letting him play out his free agency year. I am not extending him and committing to him long term. He has many skills but his baseball IQ lacks and he does not hit good pitching nor hit situationally. What they do with Volpe is going to be a big question as well because he is lost and in three years as the SS, he hasn’t shown it. And trading him is also a problem because they would be getting 50 cents on the dollar at best.
