I'm supposed to be at the Stadium today, so I'm hoping the weather holds off.

I'm fortunate to be in a position to where I can attend a makeup game, but a lot of other people may not be.

As they say in Bull Durham, some days you win, some days you lose, and some days it rains. We got result #3 today.

Oh well. I'll be there tomorrow, but I'm not expecting a crowd of much more then 30,000. That'll kill what little atmosphere there would have been in the first place.

Funny how there are so many more Mets fans than Yankees fans on here.

Not really much to say, so far. Team is about what most expected, except that the offense has struggled this past week.

Starting pitchers are capable, but not great.

Loving what I'm seeing out of Betances and Miller, and fear that Chapman's arrival can only screw this up. Yankees may have to cut into this all-time great pen to improve the whole, though.

Chapman's arrival can only screw this up? Why do you say that?
Think 1996. If we had the lead after 6innings the game was over. Mariano would go 2, and Wetteland in the 9th for the save.
Now it's Betances, Miller, and Chapman. Could be a year where it's just a 6 inning game, if we have the lead.

Sometimes a big name pitcher joins an already solid bullpen, and messes up the chemistry that was already there.

They seem insistent on making Chapman the closer, which is fine, but I don't like moving Betances to the 7th. Think that Miller-Betances-Chapman, or my preferred setup of Chapman-Betances-Miller, is the way to go. Make it lefty-righty-lefty. If if works (and you're right, it probably will), the sky is the limit for this pen.

Also, keep in mind, Miller or Betances may have to be traded to get a starter (or two) in here.

No, it's not definitely Betances in the 7th and Miller the 8th.
You look at the hitters, if 2 of the 3 hitters in the 7th are lefty hitter then it'll be Miller, if 2 of the 3 are righties then it'll be Betances.

That really is overdoing it, IMO. Both guys have proven they can get both lefties and righties out equally well.

I actually don't think you will see the three of them pitch all that often. Some days yes, but Joe might want to make sure he has at least one guy ready to go every day, instead of using all 3 for 3 days (or so) straight in close victories. Do the latter, and you might not have any of them in the pen the next game (I just did a terrible job explaining that).

Of course you won't see all 3 every game they have the lead. If up 5, someone else can come in for the 7th, or if up 1 or 2, but the starter is pitching a great game, he might go 7 or 8 or even a rare complete game.

Yankees are dead, they just can't hit anymore, hope they can trde a few of these guys. If not then we gotta wait till FA.
Sabathia: 5 years/$122M (2012-16), plus 2017 option
2017 salary guaranteed if Sabathia 1) does not end 2016 on the disabled list with a left shoulder injury, 2) does not spend more than 45 days in 2016 on the disabled list with a left shoulder injury or 3) does not make more than six relief appearances in 2016 because of a left shoulder injury.

Teixeira: 8 years/$180M (2009-16)
Beltran: 3 years/$45M (2014-16)
Eovaldi: 1 year/$5.6M (2016) I like him as our #3
Pineda: 1 year/$4.3M (2016)
Nova: 1 year/$4.1M (2016)
Betances: 1 year/$0.5075M (2016)

There are alot through 16, not naming them all.
Teixeira and Beltran better be gone after this year, and either Sabathia or Nova are gone I believe.
Lets see if Pineda can stay healthy fopr the entire year, if not then he can go too.

After the 17 season

ARod: 10 years/$275M (2008-17)
Can't wait to lose that contract.

Need to start the youth movement, the hitters suck now.

amen, only thing worse than being bad is being bad and boring.

And getting swept by the Red Sox. Still early but god they look awful! Starting Pitching is killing us. Offense is starting to pick up as of late but still need better production from everyone.

If George was still around poor results + Mets success would = depletion of farm for over the hill big name ex-star,
Hopefully Hal continues his patience but i wouldn't be surprised to see another terrible contract on board.

Yep, Steinbrenner's suspension was a blessing, Stick Michael took over, and he didn't touch the farm.
The core guys came from the minors: Posada, Jeter, Bernie, Pettitte, and Mariano.

Gotta see what we have down there, and bring them up next year.
Not saying that they'll 3-peat and 4 in 5, but maybe they can get us a championship too.

It starts with the guys in the minors then you patch up the holes with FA's.

I finally got some games to watch out here in the hinterlands of Ohio and turned the Saturday game off. Couldn't stand it anymore. Biggest waste of payroll in history at this point.

Time to shake shit up

Team is unwatchable

What can you shake up though? Have to grin and bear it this year, and hopefully see some young guys play down the stretch.

The good news is that some of these contracts come off the books starting this off season. The bad news is that this might be the worst class in the history of free agency, so reinforcements need to come from within.

Besides, it might not be the worst thing to bottom out for two years. Might be good to accumulate high draft picks. Astros, Mets, Nationals, Rays (amongst others) have all had success doing that in recent years. We might even be seeing the being of those fruits coming to bear with the Phillies.

The first thing I would do is trade Headly... Literally for anything. A happy meal... Doesn't matter. He is horrible. By accident you should be able to get an extra base hit in a full month of baseball.

What team would take his contract?

No team in their right mind. You gotta eat almost all of it. I'd rather Refsnyder learn on the job then have Headly. We can't lose any more by having Ref play. He's been practicing third in the minors. Idk... time to move on from these old guys.. Just my opinion
