Lovett and Ponds can says they are frustrated but I think that they have not done a good job getting the ball to our post players is positions where they can be successful. Sima had a decent low post game and we never made any effort to feed him the ball on the block. Our guards dominate the ball and a lot of our points come off one on one play. It is why our assist numbers are low. We do not have good ball movement at all. Ponds and Lovett have been successful at getting their point totals, but have not done a good job at setting the table for others to be successful.
I am surprised at how lost Yakwe looks on the court, but he also looks disinterested.
I would like to see more ball movement to create shots.
You should be happy that Ponds and Lovett are getting their points because when they do not you can rest assured we we lose by double digits. Except for the wild man of Borneo Bashir, no one else on this team can create their own shot or is a legitimate scoring threat. The entire front line, offensively, SUCKS. Owens can block shots, Yakwe can block shots, but neither can score more than 6 points in a game. The footwork on these players is CYO. We are signing projects that need intensive coaching but that coaching needs intensive training in the art of "instruction".
In the world of education, it is like sending your least experienced teachers to the worst schools hoping and praying the kids identify with them but it won't work. You need master teachers among that group. So, unless you recruit and sign top players with natural skills, you will forever remain in a building mode.
St. John's has been infamous for never completing the puzzle.
This team and staff are no different.
