@Xavier, Wed., Jan. 31, 6:30p, FS-1

Those ‘fast break points’ include at least 10 points that came off made basket by us. Twice RJ just got his hips behind the ball and let their guard drive the length of the court for a layup.
And once Joel needed to yell and scream And-1 so bad that he didn’t get back on defense. Mind you that was after a handful of times already he was slow to get back.

Just getting tiring how he’s the first one to get blamed after losses when he’s one of the few guys who actually shows up
Most guys tonight were positive about him, deservedly so. A bigger concern on an offensively challenged team is the lack of solid play including D by Luis. His funk and sloppy play really is hurting the team at this point. We were all counting on him and hope he can turn this around.

Why get tired, just consider the sources and move on. You’ve forgotten more basketball than those “fans” ever knew.

Luis was brutal tonight on all fronts, worst game for him of the season. Looked lost the entire game.
I would add that our other small forward Glenn Taylor Jr. was really bad as well. He couldn't stay in front of Claude who simply ate him for lunch. Dunlap was the best of our small forwards tonight,
which is like saying: "That in the kingdom of the blind the one-eyed man is king!"

Lastly, tied at 75 with 2:43 to go we were outscored 13 to 2. To me that stretch kind of summed up how we played the whole night. Anytime we got close we just got beat.

Open look and not even a hand in his face. Hate to say it again, he’s got to hit that shot.

I don’t think it was necessarily a ‘bad shot’ but even if he hits that 40% of the time, which is generous that only nets us 1.2 points.

The play should have been Joel setting the screen then dropping back into the post. Joel makes layups more than 60% of the time plus the likelihood of getting a foul call was obscenely high. Getting Joel the ball today (and most days) is +EV!

Eric, I would be absolutely ecstatic if they beat UConn but I just don’t see it. This team takes one or two steps forward and then one or two steps back. Bet the house on UConn you’ll have two houses!
For a team possibly to beat Connecticut, we can watch the Friars giving them a good game early. 18-13 with 10 1/2 minutes in first 1/2.

Olivari made some tough shots after we tied it. They hit their free throws, we didn’t. Showed a lot of heart after being down 11. This one hurts, but not quitting on this team. They still have alot of fight in them.
Olivari is likely the most dangerous 3 point shooter in the conference so why didn't Pitino have Jenkins stick to him like glue and deny him the ball?
Our players consistently lose their man on defense and Jenkins not shutting down Olivari basically cost us the game along with very poor point guard play in the final 3 minutes.
Unfortunately, St. John's has no one in the back court capable of providing points like Daniss.

True. Joel is going to get a T this year, he is jawing and ‘celebrating’ considerably more than last year. Not this game as much but I’ve noticed it in previous games. I’ve chalked it up to him being annoyed he is not the first, second, third, or fourth offensive option.

Loss hurts now, but a Providence win in this game would ruin my night. Cause you just know UConn’s beating our ass if they lose tonight
I think they’re beating our ass either way Jack. There’s just not enough consistency on the defensive end from this group.

And it’s almost impossible when you take step back 3s when you are in the double bonus and your center is having his way.
Man, you just can't leave it alone. Easy to be a Monday morning quarterback. He played a great game and you have to find a way to criticize him. Seems petty.

Oh, I’d have rather seen a pass down into Soriano. He was on fire. I just don’t see a big problem with a guy shooting the way Jenkins was taking an open look 3 there.

In a perfect world yes. But when you are down 11 after 30+ minutes on the road and you tie it after missing tons of FTs. That shows me a team that doesn’t give up. Xavier is no slouch despite their record.
Sorry, we just disagree, a team with heart and fight, fights to NOT go down double digits and lack of consistent effort is this teams major issue IMO.

I will admit Jenkins shooting the 3 was the 2nd best option. I was quick to jump on that shot, but you are right. It may not have been the optimal choice but it wasnt a bad shot.
