Xavier game

In fact we have three games in a row where we are likely to be underdogs (at Xavier, at Georgetown and home against Villanova). A victory in any of these games would be considered a good win. Personally I am greedy and hoping for at least two of three victories. However I understand that this is a tougher part of our schedule and expectations need to be adjusted accordingly..

Lavin has started the Big East season nicely in each year. I remember a win at WV and a few others. I expect a good effort. They're tough at home but beatable.

As for RPI how is BYU 21, Harvard 22 and UC Santa Barbara at 28 when Duke is at 35? Another messed up computerized system that doesn't pass the eye test.

Watched the Xavier/Wake game yesterday, and we can no doubt win this game!

Style of play and personnel we matchup very well against Xavier. Definitely one of the potential road wins I was counting on.

Is Xavier really that scary? I only watched a few minutes of them yesterday and Christian does seem like a nice player. They don't seem to be a scary offensive team. They do hit the boards well. I know they play well at home. They don't have any eye popping wins. They have wins over middle of the pack high-major teams like Cincy and Tenn. This looks like a winnable game.

Isn`t all road games a tough win?
I was counting on a split @ X and G-Town, of course I`d rather get the Xavier and then at G-Town would be playing with house money. We definitely can`t start 0-2 or it will be doom and gloom for a week while waiting for the Villanova game.

No excuses, no oh let this season play out or anything else, if we`re gonna go to the next step then they gotta win a few tough road games.

I agree. I think we matchup extremely well with Xavier. I think Christon is tremendous, but I'll take a bigger, stronger pg over a small lightening quick point any day. 6'3/6'4 physical guards are right in our sweet spot.

Their center is the fat guy from Teen Wolf...somebody has to out a body on him and they need to break his will Easley with blocked shots. This might be a game I start Obekpa.

I couldn't agree more with the pg statement you made. Small 'jitterbugs' give us hell. Our guys cant stay in front of them and they live inside the paint. I wouldnt mind us picking up a smaller point guard who is adapt at dribble penetration. Its a great option to have.

Jordan and Branch are perfect matchups with Christon. Their center is big and can be annoyingly effective. Need to keep him from bodying Obekpa and getting fouls. Excited to see this one.

agreed on both points. He's a no frills lunchpail guy that quietly gets it done. And if he's only 6'9 that is a legitimate 6'9.

On the other point about Christon, Regardless of his height though, Christon is extremely fast and athletic. I expect Felix will get more PT as he is the perfect guy to guard him. I won't be surprised to see Dom on him either. Otherwise I think our other guards will get frustrated and quickly in foul trouble trying to stick him. Jordan is a good matchup but considering the freshman factor versus a lot of experience, could get in foul trouble trying to guard him.

He is definitely not slow, but Frazier of Penn State was lightening quick compared to him. I'm sure we'll see a healthy dose of different defenders on him all night, and I think that is the way to go. I'd start Jordan on him and I'd even mix in a little Harrison. It seems Jordan and Harrison really take it personally when they guard guys that are labeled as elite NBA prospects. I like that chip on the shoulder, and it tends to fuel some of the best performances.

A serious question, though I wouldn`t bet on it.
If we win at X and G-Town, would we be in the voting section of the top25? I`d think so.

What a statement that would be too, but I`ll settle for a split.

Winning at Xavier and Georgetown would put us right on the cusp of the Top 25 I would think.

It would get us votes, but it isn't enough to get us in IMO. To go from receiving no votes to inside the top 25 almost always requires a signature win. I think we have a better shot of splitting those games and then beating Nova. Of course, winning all three would be a lock :)
