First off....I love the Mullin hire! What he has done in a little over a month is simply outstanding! I believe that we need to be looking to the future. However, we should never forget the past.

Our 'new' president, Bobby G, clearly understands the importance of our basketball team. He is in full support of the program, and appears to be sparing no expense. The resources that he has given Coach Mullin have seemingly been endless!

With that being said, how does everyone think that Lavin would have done with Bobby G as president for his entire time here?

And like I said, this is not a big love fest for Lavin or anything. To me, it's just really interesting to see the commitment to the program for one coach versus another.

If Robert E Lee had the Union Army, would the Confederacy have won the Civil War?

If Babe Ruth played today, how many home runs would he hit?

If Peyton Manning played for the Patriots, would he have more Superbowls than Tom Brady?

What's your actual point here (if any)? That you like Lavin and if he was an actual coach he might have done better?

I mean seriously, you do realize the school gave him everything he wanted while he was here, right?

He sucked and now he's gone, we're better off, deal with it and move on.

To me it doesnt change anything. Resources werent an issue with Lavin. His staff was well compensated. I can argue that in some ways Lavin made it easier for the next hire because in some ways he changed the culture and perception of the program and the way things were done

Bottom line is over the next 5 years it will be all about recruiting.

I think the maybe the 1 difference is Mullin hired 2 recruiting aces while Lavin had 1 but to his defense he tried hiring Slice too but it just didnt work out

I wasn't a Lavin hater, although I never thought he was right for St. John's. I'm just glad we finally have a guy at the helm who understands how a good sports programs is holistically good for a university, and one who as a Philippino, appreciates the game of basketball. Lavin and Gempesaw? I don't know. Good moiney after bad as far as I'm concerned.

No.

Lavin had all the resources he needed. He stopped recruiting, and couldn't coach players up.
Changing presidents doesn't change any of that.

I understand where most are coming from but one thing I think that was missing pre Mr G that might have helped Lavin a little is accountability. He didn't appear to have any under the previous regime. They were too busy cleaning up that bigger mess to GAF. With a hands on Prez Lavin might have been called into the office to explain how the 11/12 roster ended up with just 6 players at least. Might have changed some of his approach? Just thinking out loud.

Jut my opinion, but I just don't think he wanted to be here anymore. Not going to walk away from the contract but he did not seem like he was all in.

BTW what does that say about program when 2nd most successful on court coach since Louie was half assing it the last four years?

And the other one spent most of his time looking for other jobs.

For that reason I see why Mullin was the right choice despite his lack of experience. The program is not what most want it to be and was never what many think it was. It has a very slim chance of becoming what some hope it to be but someone like Mullin is the best chance to motivate all the stakeholders so the program exceeds its realistic potential; the admin, the boosters, the fans, the local hoops scene, the media, the national AND international basketball community and of course the players present and future.

Also wanted to point out that while it's clear that saying kids don't know who Mullin is was a fallacy, and I loved his video game comment to address that, it's even more of a fallacy internationally. For folks outside this country the NBA is of interest for sure but the greatest team of all time is not the Celtics dynasty or the Showtime Lakers, it is the Dream Team and that goes a long way.

it very clearly states in the title what is going to be discussed

Thanks for the advice but really who cares. The school has moved on ow it's time for the fans to move on and look forward to great things ahead.

University president had no bearing on the drive or laziness of the staff and the lack of bench. lazy is as lazy does.

I agree that we need to move on. But at the same time, he still impacted our program for the next year or two at least.

Lavin @ SJU for 5 years + Total # of visits to Cardozo H.S. gym (Ron Naclerio, Coach & SJU Alumni) located less then 5 miles from SJU for scrimmages, practices or games = 0

CASE CLOSED - move on

Oh it absolutely has a bearing on the drive of the staff. When you are treated as a 2nd rate program, you will act and coach as a 2nd rate program.
