Williams and Ellison ?

Have heard they are both candidates to redshirt due to injury. In Williams case would need a sixth year waiver to use all 3 of the remaining years he has left of eligibility.

Nailed it on Williams case.

Mason's injury what a shame. He was never the same.

Hearing Malik Ellison (foot) and Darien Williams (shoulder) will remain out against Niagara. The hope is Ellison plays Syracuse. #sjubb

Gil, if I am not mistaken, Zach claims the chances are 50/50 Ellison is ready for Syracuse. ;)

Was told last night no timetable for Darien Williams return. Question if he plays at all again this year. #sjubb

Came on here with the intention of posting that I think Williams redshirts, and now I'm certain it happens.

Hopefully LoVett can play because I think it would help Johnson immensely, which will then help mask the loss of Williams.

Yawke surprise eligibility takes the sting away from Williams.
I think he has a chance to be really good. Reminds me of Postell as a Frosh

Good point on Yakwe. Plus I hadn't read the previous posts before posting and seeing fears that Ellison might be a RS candidate too, so I'll change my post to LoVett being eligible will help Johnson take the sting out of an Ellison loss. We're going to need bodies badly, but LoVett would make the remaining bodies look good.

Like someone posted earlier Williams already redshirted one year in JC. He'd need to get a sixth year exemption to play beyond April of 2018.

I suspect that his injury will legitimately keep him from playing all season, so he loses a year anyway if we don't attempt the redshirt. Not sure if there is a RS deadline or not, though.

Hearing good chance Malik Ellison returns tomorrow for #sjubb

He'll need some games to get ready for BE games where he'll be needed, especially if NCAA continues to drag their asses on LoVett

Zach B also noted Williams is very unlikely to return this season.[/quote

That is bad news for Williams. If Ellison plays well and we bring in Ahmed and Freudenberg, I don't see much playing time for him.

Really bad news from Williams if he doesn't play this year. He got hurt early enough In the season that if he hadn't already used a redshirt, he would qualify. Now he would need the NCAA to grant another year of eligibility. Not impossible but I don't think the NCAA rules on those type of request until the person is in his fifth year of eligibility.

If Ahmed and Freudenberg do in fact end up here, with the addition of Tariq Owens, Williams may feel another option is viable.

yup, still have jones and ali. was thinking same thing

If he red shirts this year, even if He does not get another year eligibility. and he transfers, would he be eligible for next year? If so and we get Ahmad, probably his best bet.

You get five years to use up four years of eligibility. He is currently a Junior with three years of eligibility because he sat out last season in JUCO because of injury. If Williams were transfer to another D1 school say after this year, unless he is graduating, he will lose a year of eligibility because he already is in the third year of his five year clock. So he would lose this year (year 3) to injury (if he is indeed done for the year), he would then lose next year (year 4) sitting out as a transfer and only be eligible the last year (year 5). If the NCAA were to grant him a sixth year medical exemption, he would get the injured year (year 3) back. But he won't know that until sometime during Year 5.

If Jones graduates this school year, he could transfer to another D1 school and be eligible immediately to play his last year.

Unless he is able to graduate this year, if he were to transfer to another D1 school, he would have to sit out a year.

Can't you argue if he red shirts he is sitting out this year. And this year be his lost year before the transfer. In all probability he is done for this year. Of course it would be stupid to transfer if he looses next year also.

Not criticizing Williams, but I could see him getting lost in shuffle next season, assuming recruitment of quality front line players & development of holdovers.
