William & Mary, Sat., Nov. 15, 6p, TruTV / 1050 AM

Darling's an eye test guy. We can say "just William & Mary" but the team was totally out of sorts in the first half, and he helped get us going very quickly in the second half. As much as we can say it doesn't mean anything because it's just them, what does it mean that the other distributors weren't as good as him?

I can't wait for the Vegas games because I think we'll learn a lot about him. The Michigan exhibition was a very good early test, and something he could hopefully learn from. We will definitely need him.

As the first half was winding down and WM were making a comeback Grant Hill mentioned that StJ looked winded by the fast pace of WM. I wonder how winded he thought we looked mid way through the second half?
Pace was an issue. Darling asked out at one point in the second half after a few runs on the press break . Came back in after a breather.

He played practically the whole first half! He was running the show when we were out of sorts. Lol

I like Darling but can’t see him playing 20+ effective mins against good comp. Defensively not going to be able to keep with athletic guards or with switching on D. Also his three point shot going to be an issue with our front line they going to pack it in on us.

He probably going have to play big mins but not ideal.
Darling might have to play 30 some nights. We have 3 spot up shooters that are twice as good when he’s in the game.

Like it or not, this is Darling’s team. That should swell his confidence and help with scoring drives and not hesitating on threes.

The biggest thing with Pitino’s guard defense is wearing the other team down. I don’t think Sim got enough credit for that…Darling seems to be even better.

Marillac the voice of reason and I absolutely agree with everything he said

Ian’s playing timeI was limited in yesterdays game. He still scored nine points. I think he probably has a healthy NIL.
If he does not play well this year will his NIL be in jeopardy? I think he is under pressure to perform.
If he doesn't play well this year under Coach P, look for him in the transfer portal.

Sunday morning takeaways, also informed by Rick's press conference (though you also have to proceed with caution when working with anything that comes out of Rick's mouth):

Zuby and Hopkins will be starting. So will Sellers.

Against teams he is concerned will press us or play with pace, Darling will start and he will try to figure out how to hide him on defense. Makes sense because without question Darling is his best ball handler.

I think he will use games against other teams to find starts for Sanon or Jackson at the 2 with Sellers at the 1.

Not sure what he will do with Mitchell. Likely depend on matchup and practice whether he starts Mitchell or Sanon.

I remain convinced that he is trying to bring along Pohto to see if he can play point so he can get Sellers off the ball more. And Pohto started to show some potentially very nice point guard traits last night. There may be something there.

Ruben Prey does all the dirty work but I never want to see him put the ball on the floor.

Rick still has a TON of work to do with this team and it's going to get late early - given the weakness of the BE if they drop too many of the good out of conference games they can forget about getting a top 3 seed in the NCAAT.

On to Bucknell

Zuby/Hopkins/Sellers seems like the offensive core. Completely agree. Coach clearly wants them taking any and all shots available to them. He has explicitly made those statements in the press and his in-game coaching is consistent with those statements. How he fits the remaining pieces seems to be his current puzzle.

There are so many new players with different strengths, I can’t even pretend to know how this plays out. That said, there are lots of posters who have it all figured out — that’s why I love this board!

Just listen to me and Marillac. And if we don't agree, ignore Marillac.

Yes but they all have different solutions!
