Will we make the NIT?

Silly thread. Let's say those who think this season will be a disaster are right and we go 6-12 in Big East and lose to Duke. That would make us 17-14 and will get us into NIT.

Do you call your kid a genius in the second grade for getting 100 in spelling 4 letter words? Do you call him an idiot when the same kid has trouble with geometry in HS. If you do, you're a prototypical St. John's fan.

Mislabeled thread? Should read NCAAs, not NIT, because this team is dancing this year.

Those who are panicking need to get off the ledge and go root for the red and white.....errr.....I mean the blue and red.

I find it funny that you think that I'm not rooting just because I concerns for our depth. This thread is dumb, but there is cause for concern right now.

remember your quote next time you jump on a poster for showing "cause for concern" This would be your opinion correct?

You just don't get it

If we do make the NIT maybe UCLA will be our opponent. After they beat us, we can leave Lavin in Los Angeles and say "thanks guys, we should have listened to you five years ago. You can have him back. "

They haven't exactly hit a home run with Steve Alford, he is getting killed out there already.

School is perfect example of how difficult it is once a certain bar is established, even with a healthy budget. Their bar is considerably higher than ours, but still not able to find someone to approach Wooden success many years later.

Don't have to. Apparantly you're interpretation is the benchmark. Anyone else is a complainer not you of course just everyone else.
PS looks like my season prediction is spot on. Maybe 18 - 13.
and right now DeP, Marquette are no gimme's.
But you did declare game 6 of the BE vs Prov is a must win. Really game 6 not 4& 5? Lets deal with one at a time before Big game 6.
You are a riot.

St. John's fans panic after losses and any sign of bad news. Here comes the fire Lavin crowd the "will we go 0-5, 0-10, 20" posts.
These kids battled. They played the #8 team in the country (and a terrible match up) even for 2/3's of the game.
Marillac is not a moral victory guy, but you need to take away thing from every game and improve...it's a long season. I think this is a game the team learns an awful lot from. Poor-decision making cost this team. Dom...AGAIN...with the touch foul to put them on the line for 1 and 1. Jordan...AGAIN...with the quick, dumb shots that lead to layups for the opposition. Phil...AGAIN...forcing shots without his feet set.

SJU will beat Nova at their place to make up for this. Man, Marillac loves Harrison. What a shame...what a damn shame such a high IQ player has to lose because of these stupid mistakes by his teammates. His midrange game will some games later in the year. Just try to have some faith...it's not easy now, but try.

Good post, but why is nova a terrible match up? I think our dumb mistakes cost us the game. End of the half killed us again, bad shots killed us again. Rysheed played the worst game of his career and we were as good or better than them for 30 minutes.

We can't handle strong pfs...it is the biggest weakness of this team. Pinkston was banging our guys all night on both ends...it was jab after jab with his 260 pound frame. We had a guy on the floor 40-60% of the possessions. Good for him...refs let him do it. He had no interest in filling the stat sheet. That whole team is just so physical. I think it was a wake up call. 40-21 on the glass.

We really played hard. It just wasn't going to happen tonight. I know it will be popular to knock them tonight, but I saw some good signs. We know Lav's teams get better as the year goes on...they are certainly no their yet, but they can get there and be much better than the 2010-2011 team.

Lavin's teams have NEVER gotten better in his tenure here. The team is battling and that's all you can ask but the margin for improvement is ridiculously low because of the lack of depth and scoring options. Just the way it is. Kick back and admire the effort and wait for next year because Lavin will be gone and hope wiill spring eternal again.

I don't remember ever saying anything about you not rooting.

What would you say to the postulation that Harrison, Obekpa, and Pointer have allowed improved considerably over their 4 years here and I cannot remember the last time that many guys significantly improved over their stay here?

Hate on Lavin's in game coaching all you want and you wont hear an argument from me, but to say his teams have never, im sorry, NEVER, gotten better is an absolute fabrication of the truth. Last years team didnt get better? His first team here didnt get better?

This is the worst part about these sites. You guys are too critical. Are we all upset that we lost by a few to the Zags, Butler, our rivals The Hall and now Nova? Of course, but NIT talk, come on guys. Just stop rooting now, stop coming on the site, stop checking out the schedule, stop looking at the box score....you all gave up already. This team has grown tremendously since last year. DAngelo has a complete game, PGIV has polished his game mostly shooting, Sir Dom has been a force playing out of position, Branch has stepped up into a nice point, and Obekpa....well, I remember talk how bigs couldnt develope here....blah blah blah....Obekpa gets better and better every game. I love the talk about Lav not recruiting....look around the country at a lot of these great players. Lav was in on a ton of these guys till the end. Jermaine Lawrence, Chris Mccullough, Jayvaughn Pinkston, Rico Gathers, Ishmail Wainright, Ishaiah Whitehead, Briscoe....on and on. If he didnt go after the top blue chips you'd complain we dont go after high level guys. When you do its a risk, all the big boys want him. The Johnnies have been there to the end on a lot of these guys...some we got, Harrison, Sanchez, Jakaar, and Jordan...etc....but he does recruit. Are we super thin, are we undermanned ? Yes, some of that has to do with Keith Thomas and ADR situation. If we had those two bodies we are a much deeper team. I think the staff has been doing a great job with our situation. The Garden was pumped last night, the boys played real hard, old redmen hard. we were outmanned plain and simple. Nova is legit fellas. Everyone needs to calm down, we will be in the dance. When it boils down to it, there is only one champion in the end. Do any of you think that the johnnies can take out Kentucky ? So, what are your expectations ? Im hoping for not only a trip to the dance, but make it to the sweet 16. That is possible guys. Jordan was awful last night, no doubt, but when he gets his head on straight and DAngelo keeps playing at this level...we are fine. Who cares about being # 15, it looks great and I love seeing it but the only thing that matters is when they dance in march. I too am concerned about our only one commit, but college hoops is crazy, things happen in a blink. maybe we will pick up some key transfers or some solid JUCOs. As for now, Im behind this team till the end.....Go Johnnies!!!

Yes, the title of this thread is premature and stupid.

Yes we can still make the tournament.

But no Lavin hasn't done a good job recruiting.

Id extend the guy if it mattered at all that he was in on recruits until the end. But getting close to getting high level talent does nothing.

Nobody would criticize Lavin if he got blue chippers. In fact this team is a few blue chip big men from being an automatic tournament team and a team that beat villanova last night.

Jack my point exactly, if we have Keith Thomas and ADR, we go toe to toe with the best of them.

When you take risky kids academically so late in recruiting cycle you often reap what you sow.
