Will we make the NIT?

Yes, if can clone D'Lo.

In fairness, the starting five gave it their all vs Nova but were clearly gassed in the second half. No help off the bench is killing us. In the pre-BE games Lavin was able to survive against lesser teams with a 6-7 man rotation but that has backfired in conf play.

Once CO or Sir'Dom gets into inevitable foul trouble we are screwed. We hung with Nova for 30 mins and then the wheels came off.

St. John's fans panic after losses and any sign of bad news. Here comes the fire Lavin crowd the "will we go 0-5, 0-10, 20" posts.
These kids battled. They played the #8 team in the country (and a terrible match up) even for 2/3's of the game.
Marillac is not a moral victory guy, but you need to take away thing from every game and improve...it's a long season. I think this is a game the team learns an awful lot from. Poor-decision making cost this team. Dom...AGAIN...with the touch foul to put them on the line for 1 and 1. Jordan...AGAIN...with the quick, dumb shots that lead to layups for the opposition. Phil...AGAIN...forcing shots without his feet set.

SJU will beat Nova at their place to make up for this. Man, Marillac loves Harrison. What a shame...what a damn shame such a high IQ player has to lose because of these stupid mistakes by his teammates. His midrange game will some games later in the year. Just try to have some faith...it's not easy now, but try.

Good post, but why is nova a terrible match up? I think our dumb mistakes cost us the game. End of the half killed us again, bad shots killed us again. Rysheed played the worst game of his career and we were as good or better than them for 30 minutes.

/the way the starting 5 is throwing their bodies around and playing huge minutes, it wouldn't surprise me if we end up with only 3 or 4 of them left by early February. Then it's questionable on the N.I.T.

Why not instead discuss how ridiculously absurd you and this thread are. Please don't call yourself a "fan." Love how all the naysayers come out after a loss, I'm not even a Lavin lover, but this may be the dumbest thread I've ever come across. Get a grip

We can't handle strong pfs...it is the biggest weakness of this team. Pinkston was banging our guys all night on both ends...it was jab after jab with his 260 pound frame. We had a guy on the floor 40-60% of the possessions. Good for him...refs let him do it. He had no interest in filling the stat sheet. That whole team is just so physical. I think it was a wake up call. 40-21 on the glass.

We really played hard. It just wasn't going to happen tonight. I know it will be popular to knock them tonight, but I saw some good signs. We know Lav's teams get better as the year goes on...they are certainly no their yet, but they can get there and be much better than the 2010-2011 team.

Come on! This team lacks the necessary depth to get it done. Our rebounding & perimeter defense fall way off in second half as we tire. Not one to panic, but I am concerned we lack sufficient fire power and numbers to Dance. Harrison can't get it done solo & it appears Jordan has regressed to be kind. Even if they split the next two road games, a 1-4 start will be tough for this roster challenged team to overcome.

The depth sucks. There's no way around it. These guys were worn down after being run off Ochefu and/or Pinkston all night long.

I thought Lavin should have played JDR a little early, but I understand the risk there.
If Jordan plays this bad, we don't really have a shot. He's got to step it up. He can miss shots, but that just means he has to be that much better on the glass on and D. He is very capable of turning it around. We don't need Black Jesus...just an inspired 25-30 minutes of defense, rebounding, more intelligent drives, and less jumpers.

Foul trouble changes the landscape for this team more than any team in the nation...yet Dom and CO give away two chippies a game for no reason. That HAS to change.

We will win the rematch. Jordan will have a great game.

+1
We have 1 serviceable frontcourt player in Obekpa. That's a fault of crappy recruiting, plain and simple.
We're not going to the tournament. We had a fairly easy schedule, and it inflated our self-perception. Just like the winning streak against DePaul and dartmouth last season.
We weren't one of the best teams in the country then, and we weren't one of the best this December. We just lit up some patsies, but we remained a deeply flawed team with no powerforward or front court depth, and a stagnant half court offense.

They have our number & are a better coached team with a roster filled with physical players & good shooters. Doubt we have a prayer in Philly. It may be better to focus on beating PC & Depaul on road before your revenge game. By the time we play them again the game may not mean much if we don't start winning some games.

You are probably right, but this team has shown resolve thus far going into Syracuse to change four years of negative history. They came back from down 15 to the top ten Zags (another awful matchup). They came back from getting doubled up by a solid St. Mary's team--a team that is 6-0 since.

Can't argue with the logic of beating PC and Depaul on the road first. That is certainly next on the to do list. Road wins are rewarded handsomely in the RPI and a loss v. a win @ Depaul would be a wild swing like last season.

We gotta take this 8 day rest, then come back and get to 3-3. There's no way around it. It is possible. Very possible.

Marquette and DePaul should be wins. DLo isn't gonna let us lose those. Believe me

Providence game is our season. To me it is our season.

If we do make the NIT maybe UCLA will be our opponent. After they beat us, we can leave Lavin in Los Angeles and say "thanks guys, we should have listened to you five years ago. You can have him back. "

Mislabeled thread? Should read NCAAs, not NIT, because this team is dancing this year.

Those who are panicking need to get off the ledge and go root for the red and white.....errr.....I mean the blue and red.
