Will our poor season affect recruiting?

One concern that I have is that our poor results and horrific end to the season will affect recruiting. All the top kids always say they want to go to a school that will challenge for a National Championship. It seems more imperative then ever that Lavin has a good won loss record next year to continue to draw the top recruits. Could our dismal performance this year have steered the likes of Martin, Lawrence and Wainright in a different direction?

Were Martin and Wainright already committed before the season?

Thought it was during the season. I could be wrong though.

No. Were you banned from the jungle? Haven't seen you post there in a while.

Both Wainwright and Martin committed before the season. Lawrence commitment had very, little to do with our season. Not to mention, I think we were a few games over .500 when he did commit to Cincy.

Maybe, he's been moonlighting over here because he assumes no one knows his identity. But I know who's behind his screenname. I'm sure you do, as well, by your post. I wonder why he continues to migrate to both boards, considering his dislike for both of 'em.

He can cut it out with the passive-aggressive posts and phoniness.

of course losing hurts recruiting. Anyone who says otherwise is looking through really red colored glasses. There is NO possible way to put a positive spin on losing that many games down the stretch when the games count most. You are only kidding yourselves if you think otherwise.

But if the players committed before the season then there is no connection at all. And thats what was pointed out. Only Lawrence committed during the year.

But why let trivial things like facts get in the way of trying to force a point. It is a redmen.com specialty.

No quesiton that success breeds success. It's one reason NR could recruit well for Kansas, but not here at SJU.

Just about every kid wants to play for a Kansas, Kentucky, or Duke.

That being said, Lavin vastly improved our tlaent pool beginning with NR's last record of one and done in the NIT. Having a Big East rookie of the year, a guy in the NBA from his first year of recruiting (yes it does matter), and a squad with tlaent but missing a few pieces will help immensely. For a big talent, Lavin can sell minutes, and an NCAA bid to come. Plus MSG, and a new Big East

NO! Uconn was on probation this year, they lost their Hall of Fame coach, their program is in basketball limbo as they do not even know what conference name they will have to put on their home court......yet, they are involved with more elite players than St. John's.
We had only two major prospects we pursued for 2013 due to scholarship limitations but we may not fill any even though a scholie can be withheld at the coach's discretion. I know this is not a popular option but it is one that needs to be utilized when the parts do not fit. The situation in our backcourt is dire, to say the least so that has become a priority but recruiting well is not only about wins and losses, it is about making hard decisions with current players to balance the team and position it for future success.

Top players look to go with a coach that gets his players to the NBA. Coach Lavin has players in the NBA. Regardless if you think he is a good coach or not, it's still a reality.

Losing doesn't help...but how many players out there do you think doubt that they could make a huge difference in the W column? So I think it's not as important as you would think.

And, we weren't exactly at the very bottom of the league. It's not like they lost 20+ games. Maybe you view this as a poor season, but there are others that would disagree.

Honestly, I'd be shocked if our freshmen and sophs never get to play in the NCAA tourney here - and so would most of us. This season was a step in the rebuilding process.

If you think that hese years compare to Roberts first two teams, remember that Lavin schedules a pretty tough pre-Big East schedule, and under NR we were losing to former cupcakes with regularity.

Our fanbase needs to stop using Norm Roberts as a barometer.

College basketball turns over annually (UK is a perfect example).

Recruits are a part of it. And player development is another part of it.

If our current crop of Sophs don't put in the dedication of improving their games, their bodies and their skillsets, we'll be in exactly the same boat as we are in now. And that says a lot because on paper, next year's Big East is much less formidable with all of the upcoming school departures.

Banned from the jungle? You mean the neighborhood where you live has restrictions? :)

Seriously, who do you think I am?

If you are referring to me, I don't know what you are talking about. It has been well documented that you are an antagonist and a bully on this board with many but why the hard on for me? You do little to win friends and influence others but somehow the old adage of " every dog has his day" seems to apply here.

Oh and by the way, I have not violated any site rules, have not engaged in foul language and strictly talk basketball. It would be great if you would do the same.

Documented as an antagonist and bully by many? Only one poster has said such. Quite frankly, I could care less what that particular poster had to say. So, cut the BS, dude. Stop playing the victim like you've been known to do.

If anything you're the antagonist and bully, based on your history. So, stop passing off your behavior on others, as you tend to do. Your posts on here are laced with passive-aggressivenesss; strawmen; and phoniness.

Several people on here know who you are, and what you've said about this site, and the Jungle, on many occasions.

No.... You haven't broken or violated any rules under your current screenname. But you've been kicked off this board several times, but seem to find your way back on after dissing the site after each and every ban. Then, you have the propensity to be a bigger jerk to other posters whom you felt got you banned. No one has gotten you banned, but yourself.

By the way, I get along with many posters on the board. I've even met a few from the board, and converse with them and several others. Other than that, my taste buds has a bad reaction towards phoniness.

I'll ask.... Why are you back again?

I just got the feeling Lawrence wanted to go away to school. Some players like to stay local, but most want the opportunity to go somewhere else for their college years.

I think there was a bit more to it, but that is certainly plausible.

I do agree with you that some kids like to branch out from their homebase when it comes to attending college.
