why delete my post?pitt calling garden2nd home

Lots of cranky people after a loss :)

This team brought weak intensity ag 20th ranked team in country who calls the garden their 2nd home st.j's Players should not complain about attendence w this kind of performance 47 pts

I would suggest that posters take a few things into consideration. This would be particularly relevant to some who have posted on this thread.

First, read the site rules. They are sticky-ed in the top of this forum. Not hard to find.

Second, don't get cute. While some of the moderators happen to be lawyers, we aren't going to lawyer with you. You all know the basics: don't curse, don't insult other posters (even when they insult you), don't denigrate the players, coaches, or university staff personally, don't spam the site. "Don't curse" does not mean come up with cutesy ways around it. "Don't insult other posters" is of course difficult, since no-one is as smart as you, or you, or you. But find a way to disagree without being disagreeable. It's possible, really. Try. "Don't denigrate the players, etc" should be easy. Feel free to comment on bonehead plays or coaching. You can criticize someone's performance, within reason. Stay away from haircuts, tattoos, race, color, creed, etc. Here's a tip for "don't spam the site." If you post more than 3 times on the same thread, the glimmer of a thought should start to enter your head that you've said enough. If you post 10 times on the same thread, that glimmer should become a spotlight. If you go 15+, then we are talking about the headlight of an onrushing train that is about to run you over.

Third, don't call out or otherwise harass the moderators. They are fans and volunteers. They don't get paid for doing what they do. All they get is to satisfaction of contributing to a readable site that allows all of you to talk about the team we all root for. That someone is a moderator doesn't mean that they don't get to post, or to have opinions, or anything else. There are about a dozen moderators, some of whom are more visible to you than others, but all of whom are regularly on the site and who may move your posts. There is absolutely no reason for any of you to call out any moderator on your (almost invariably wrong) assumption that the moderator you may have seen post did something to your pearls of wisdom. If you are perplexed, PM any of the mods and you will get an answer. You may not like the answer, but what you can be assured of is that whatever was done was considered by the moderators and that most or all of them agreed with whatever was done. That's the way it works. This is not an unregulated free-for-all, and if you don't like it then you should find someplace else to post.

Finally, if you get a PM from a moderator on behalf of the group of moderators calling something to your attention, then if you want to keep posting here then you should probably take it into consideration. Because usually if things get to that point then you have offended a large majority of the moderators to the point where suspending or revoking your posting privileges has been strongly considered. Again, if that happens then it's nothing personal - the moderators are a diverse group, and if you get such a PM then you have succeeded in unifying all or almost all of them in condemnation of your posts.

We appreciate everyone's contributions to the site. Think of your posts as flowers, and try not to let them become weeds that choke out the other posts.

Thank you.

Pitt's second home is the Garden?? Moose was right. There were about 8 Pitt fans there today. The encouraging part was that almost all of the 9k or so we're enthusiastic SJU fans, although not much to be enthusiastic about today. Certainly not Pitt's second home. Syracuse...that's a totally different story.

I agree with you regarding the use of profanity, but just recently I had a post deleted because i made a comment that someone felt offensive. It was not the intent when I made the comment, but obviously someone did. This is unacceeptable, we live in a society where we can air our views no matter who it might offend. It is referred to "having an opinion" Well this is the reason why I rarely post anymore. And as far as not questioning our moderators because many of them are lawyers, PLEASE!!!!!!!!

Are you sure it was deleted? You know technology is a peculiar thing sometimes. Also threads get deleted sometimes and therefore posts get deleted.

There are like 10 moderators. Some pull quicker than others. Some read game threads and some are at the games and don't read the previous 24 pages when they get to a computer afterwards. To paint the broad brush stroke is not necessary. Send a PM to one or some of the mods and we can find out what went wrong. I don't recall seeing a post of yours pulled but its impossible to see everything.

Thanks

I am not sure if the post was removed but it certainly deserved to be. There was a question about the Coach's loyality following the death of his father. Out of respect for the Lavin family, several posters asked it taken down. Remember, most of us don't pay a dime to be on here. Just respect what the moderators ask. Crazy.

Better memory than I '96. If that in fact was the post in question then there should be no question as to why.

Lets let the dog sleep. Lawman's post in this thread sums it all up. Follow that and everyone's lives will be a lot easier.

That is my point. For the record, I indicated in my post that this was not my position, but I placed it out there because two of my SJU alums brought it up. Listen lets not beat this to death, I as well appreciate the difficult job all the moderators do. Let's just keep it in mind that before we indiscrimantly remove or delete posts because it may not be the opinion of the moderator that we do so with some prudence. CASE CLOSED!

If your fellow alum friends felt that way fine, that's their prerogative. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But some things are better left unsaid. You should have let them believe what they wanted to believe and left it there. There is no way at all to explain that post any other way. Life and death over basketball. If you still feel that it was wrong to pull that thread well frankly I don't know what to tell you besides that I think you will be in the vast minority. We might be able to pull the reactions you gathered from other non mods to show you that the mods weren't in their own little fiefdom here.

Bingo, Moose! If the coaches loyalty was called into question due to his father passing, then it should be removed. This is what happens when posters are overly-emotional about a game.

Quite frankly, someone who does such probably is self-loathing.

Moose we could go on and on with this but frankly I am running an agency and do not have the time. I respect your opinion as well as your willingness to respond to my assertions! Have a great day!

I don't know what our occupation has to do with this but ok.
I will go back to running a multi million dollar business now ;)
Have a great day as well.

To add my two cents as a fellow moderator there should be zero discussion as to why the thread in particular was deleted.
I for one found it exceptionally offensive and in poor taste.

No I did not, as a matter of fact I wrote a lengthy response disagreeing with the thread which was also sent to the graveyard.
