Why All The Optimism

Why does everyone have to revert to conspiracies?

people need to leave the forensic poster analyzing to me and Dinkins

I posed a legitimate question and I got attacked by individuals and called names. I'm an alum and a retired HS Basketball Coach. Yes, I had friends on both Norm's and Steve's staff. However as a SJU grad I have no problem with the present staff and only wish them success.Maybe I'm a pessimist but I felt it was imperative to have a strong class signed early, If this season turns out the way most people predict it becomes more difficult to recruit top talent. This is a tough business and the other coaches will disparage Chris to potential recruits . How effective will they be.We'll find out 4/15

Call me iSham, don't take it personally. It's a forum and like any family we sometimes get on each others nerves. Somewhere between pessimism and optimism is possumism and with a win over Cham-wow and Yakwe being eligible, we should be all grateful this Thanksgiving. Early signings are nice but we need quality and I think Chris, Slice, Mitch and Co will get us there. What we need around hereparts is patience. Keep expectations low and celebrate the small victories. In Mullin We Trust.

If Villanova basketball has taught me anything it is you don't need a bunch of big guys to be successful. Say what you want about how they have performed in the tournament recently, but they have been dangerous for years. Ochefu will probably average about 28 minutes a game this year, while Darryl Reynolds gets about 12. Those 2 will RARELY be on the floor together at the same time.

With that being said, and with next year in mind, and as long as everybody is eligible, with Owens and Sima, SJU already has enough size upfront that you can work with and rotate. Then you have Ponds, Lovett, Yakwe, Mussini, Jones, Ellison and so on who you can rotate as far as your perimeter players. WIth this in mind, by next year SJU already has enough pieces to be competitive. I don't see SJU having to wait that long to start making noise in the Big East again.

This year is still going to be tough, but Yakwe already gives SJU a much needed piece, with size, who can contribute right away. Ponds keeps recruiting on track for next year, and if Mullin can bring in another solid class in 2017, SJU is going to be just fine. When I say solid, what I have in mind is the players in the Top 75-125 range, the 3 star and 4 star guys that Mullin can certainly get. Having a guy like Alkins is obviously a bonus, but it is those 3 and 4 star guys ranked in that 75-125 range, who stick around for 4 years who you can REALLY build a program with. I am hoping Mullin really focuses on these type of players because he can certainly land them. I am optimistic!

I don't get why you wouldn't be optimistic for next year. No ones calling for a run to the Sweet 16, but I truly believe that by next year they can contend for a spot in the NCAA tournament and at least be a bubble team.

Sima has already proved he is a legitimate D1 center who I already like more than Obekpa. He will be a force next year.

Mussini has already proved doubters wrong and is clearly a nice offensive weapon on the college level.

They will have not 1, but 2 legit point guards who are pro prospects next year in Lovett and Ponds to go along with Yakwe who himself was a highly regarded recruit. And of course you would expect the staff would also make other TBD upgrades in talent.

I'm personally going to enjoy watching this team grow. Yes we will be below 500 this year but that is exactly what I expected. Next year we we will make noise in the big east IMO.

We're 4-2 after our first 6 games. In one of our 2 losses we hung tough with a top 20 team. And we've had to deal with injuries to our already short roster. We've got some kids here who are going to be solid building blocks for the future., and they're good kids! We've got more on the way including Yawke, even earlier than expected. The staff seems to be doing all the right things on all fronts(recruiting, getting the kids to play hard, etc). I could go on. If you havent seen enough since Chris and staff have arrived to be optimist about our future, I have to question whether or not you're a true fan.

Let's see if you're still optimistic at 50.

he won't make it past 40. Been there done that

The truth is that the future is a question mark and we appear to be years away from being competitive. There is no guarantee that all of these new kids (yawke, Lovett, ponds) will all play together, no less develop into a cohesive unit.

It appears that mullin, slice and company are making headway in the recruiting trail, but who knows how it will all play out. Unfortunately, the current program is at rock bottom. As I alluded to earlier, this team is presently far less talented than the squad normy inherited and that's saying something.

As a sju fan I think you can choose to be optimistic or be miserable. As one who usually chooses the latter, I will give optimism a try.
Are u really THIS clueless?.. we just hung with Indiana with a 6 man team... plus we are on the verge of wrapping up a top 5 recruiting class... w/ the King Of NYC as the cherry on top.. # U HEARD IT HERE FIRST!!
