who is going to be our next recruit to sign

Playing Devils advocate if they so much better and it does not show on our record in wis or does not get us in the NCAA torny hen being so much better really has no meaning. That said, hope their improvement curve is straight up. ove the talent.love GG but h would b much better playing in his natural position power If 6-10 pele comesoboard a put on a few lbs then we have the very competitivefront line which will be able to hol its own with the Kentuckts,tDuke ,NC etc

'72 - meant to quote you and not post a blank message. Failed at both so I'll edit, since I can't figure out how to delete, and post a quick response.

First, LOI's signed this week are for 12/13 so if Amir and even Norvel were coming in December LOI's signed now would be useless. And you do realize you don't have to sign an LOI at all to get a scholly, I'm sure.

Re 12/13, While 95% is a bit of an exaggerator, yes most kids sign their LOI's in this signing period.  The vast majority sign with schools to whom they verbally committed over the summer or earlier in the year or even before last season or as Soph's. I think my previous post outlined why, given the events of the week of September 16 and the subsequent reversal by Gathers, the only LOI's STJ could even hope to expect this week would be Darrick's and Norvel's if he's sure he's coming but not in December.

So while in theory you are right that Spring Signing is an important period for most teams what I'm having trouble grasping is, given the situation as it presently stands, why you are so surprised at how it's playing out for STJ this year.

If Wood signed an LOI and then the NCAA ruled ineligible wouldn't that prevent him from ever playing for us ? If so maybe that is why he hasn't signed yet

No, he has to enroll to be declared ineligible I believe.  And I'm pretty sure that is or was a BE rule that I'm not sure if it still applies.

Obviously Woods and Garritt seem very comitted. The problem is we could use 2 more big men, Although there really is no immidiate urgency, I would feel better when we get a LOI for one. ON Johnny Jungle, Dave said Pelle is not getting the job done and maybe we should move on, not a reassuring statemrnt.

Could not agree more - good for you and your wise post Redstorming! We" can't win them all" either recruits or games and likely will take our lumps this year. But what great "stuff" has been coming even since Coach lavin came aboard. We fans St. John's are fortunate.  :cheer:

Austour, I am probably overreacting by the fact that 3 top 100 guys are not here coupled with a top 50 decommit and not having any assurances that any of the kids we are pursuing are, in fact, coming. That is 6 vacancies for 12/13 that need to be filled. That is a tall order but, as I said, I tend to dramatize at times:) I am sure the coaches will have at least 3 in the fold that are quality players. getting 6 may not be easy for 12/13 at this stage of the recruiting process.

I think Dave may be doing some forensic analyses of Pelle's Tweets and Facebook posts.
His posts are very negative and it appears that academically he is a very weak possibility for December. He will play somewhere but it is looking doubtful that it will be at SJ. I think we will see a full court press for the services of Christopher O from Our Saviour.

I'm putting on my christmas list for us to get a 7ft Mensa who can play hoops

I do not expect to see him in Dec, but what makes you think he will not end up at SJU in 2012. Everything I have read within the last couple of days ,except Daves remark, seem to indicate he will sign,IE Zagsblog. Maybe he really wanted to come to SJU in Dec, but due to his academics he will not be able to and that is bumming him out. With the uncertainty of both Gathers and Pelle I agree with you about Chris O.
