Whitehead Injured

I don't really like it; and I certainly wouldn't have wanted any of our current staff sacrificed to clear a spot for Tiny. More than that, I don't see how Whitehead would have fit in on this roster. I would imagine that he wanted to be the focus of any offense he went to. Lavin wasn't gonna take the ball out of D'lo's hands to give it to Whitehead.

Would those of you that still complain about the Tiny hiring/whitehead commit have cared if Lavin had hired a HS coach in order to get a top flight recruit? I know I wouldn't have. Would you guys have given a damn if Lavin added Briscoe's HS coach to the staff at the last minute and we got Isiah away from Cal? I highly doubt it.

why would you doubt it? Put it this way:

I can't believe he wore a blue tie!

yes, he hit the game winner but what a terrible call by the coach to have him take that shot.

we still need to fire this guy. it is time to hire Mike Mike he's proven it at every level since 4th grade

Of course in hindsight, and in light of how well we're playing, its easy to question how IW would fit in. Just like its now easy to question whether Thomas how Thomas would have fit in. I believe that the resolve of this senior laden team, lead by D'Lo, is such that IW would have either bought in or played somewhat limited minutes. But make no mistake about it, we would have been jumping with joy had IW committed here, with out without Tiny. Anyhow that wasn't my point. It was more about what sounds like a double standard and "sour grapes" from many of the posters.

Agree

I don't wish injuries on anyone nor outside of wondering on occasion what might have been, use them as an excuse (wondering about something in this case is not making an excuse) You play the players that you have and move on, no excuses. Just because he is injured doesn't mean they can't still beat us. Just ask the Wisconsin football team and their supporters that after losing the Big Ten Championship game to Ohio State who played a QB that was 3rd string in the summer making his first start and seeing his first significant time after their first stringer went down before the season opener and the second stringer went down during the game the week before.

I think a Whitehead would have fit in well because in his short time in college he has proven to be a play maker and not just a scorer. He has been a great passer (leads team in assists) and a good rebounder as well (4 per game).

Problem is if we get him does Phil Greene transfer actually happen? If so, does Opekpa transfer actually happen? Does Dom Pointer still breakout like he has? Who knows the answer to any of these questions but the point is we might not be any better with him and if we had to sell out to hire his coach it wasn't worth it. Now if you told me Whitehead would be a 4 year starter and attract other top recruits, I might have a different opinion. I just don't see that being the case.

For now I think the bigger loss was
Chris McCullough to Cuse. Add him to this core and we really could be special. You could go on and on with what ifs though (if Sampson stayed, if Thomas was eligible, etc).

Time to enjoy the present and this team. Let's hope they continue to perform in conference and we make a run in the tourney. We are definitely due for some breaks and these kids deserve it.

Defense wins
I'm trying not to get too optimistic on our season
But in college w/ bobby knight, Mike k & nations leading defense, army won a lot of games w/out that much talent
Our ( St. John's) defense is smoking which could translate into a year better than anyone expects or imagines
From James & the giant peach ( Roald Dahl)
"marvelous things can happen!"
I'm intuitive: Greene pointer Branco and deangelo are speaking a big time year in their collective gearts
Collective hearts. = synergy
Nice!

Wonderful time of the year
All the best
