Where were you?

MSG in New York City. A glorified home game for the University of Arizona. No excuses. We are a pathetic fanbase. And unless you were there, YOU are to blame.

It still sounded like a good, St. John's partisan, but there were too many empty seats and 'Zona fans were gonna sound loud when they had something to cheer about (although, it did sound like they had quite a few fans there).

Were you there MJD? STJ fans were clearly outnumbered 2-1 from where I was sitting. I understand this wasn't a "home" game and I expected a small crowd. What I didn't expect was to get outvoiced by an opponent from the 3,000 miles away on every key possession.

I have to say I was upset. I was there with a Cuse grad and he kept saying how STJ showing is pathetic for a team from the city. However, I live on 34th st and its easy for me to come. My dad came from LI and just got home. 930 on a Thursday is hard for most people if you are not from NYC. Its all about tv and money, but still, Arizona shouldn't out number us in our backyard.

7 PM in Queens is hard, 9:30 in Manhattan is tough. Just sounds like there's not a good time for this team to get some support.

Suck it up, make a sacrifice or two. I was embarrassed tonight. Period. And it had nothing to do with the product on the court.

The students showed up tonight and brought it. As for the rest of you, you disgust me. Have some self-respect for your school and come out to MSG to see us play a ranked team. And don't give me any garbage about this not being part of season tickets. 15 bucks got you in the building tonight. Pathetic.

Sorry but 10 other Garden games and 9 on campus games as a season ticket holder does not make me pathetic for not coming from eastern LI on a week night for a very late game. However must admit if we had the 3 extra kids I would have given it more thought. Then again someone has to help the TV ratings for St J.

I was there. Great job by our fans who did show up, made a lot of noise during our second half run. That being said, Arizona fans did have us outnumbered.

I don't think that will be a problem against A & M. They had one little minisection of the Garden, and that was it.

I wouldn't say that Arizona had more fans in the building, but they probably had at least 35% of the house and those 35% were as loud as our fans.

9:30 WAS a LATE start, and when I bought my tickets, I didn't realize we played the second game. For Arizona fans, it was only 7:30. Maybe that was the reason they showed up in massive numbers?

Really, though, NYC is as popular a venue for college kids right now as it has ever been. We'd better get used to it. People want to come here - it's the greatest city in the world. If there is an away game for colleges that kids would circle and want to travel to, it would be an MSG game.

Actually, for a non-season ticket game, this was our best crowd in a long, long, time. Our student section was jammed. At my LIRR station, I overheard a couple of students mildly complaining that they couldn't get student tickets, but bought tickets for $20 online. If you compare student support to the beginning of last season, its like night and day. Students are excited about our team, with good reason.

It IS disappointing to play a game in our backyard where a team from Arizona can have a strong vocal fan base. But, I would also say that we are still building something here, and I fully expect that our attendance will only get stronger. Right now we have around 800 season ticket subscribers. There was a time in the 80s where Alumni Hall was sold out with season tickets.

The pregame had a nice turnout also. Thanks to SJu for hosting it. It was reasonably priced, and well done. It was nice seeing the redmen.com'ers who showed up there.

i hear ya.. Dickie V. called out the SJU Alumini base going into one one of the breaks..  I cringed when he said..something like "Alumini where are you.. come see the kids..come see the kids. I'll loan you the money... I'll loan you the money!!!!!..."

I will be at all the MSG home games in DEC and JAN..

I know it was only one game and the season is still young but last night's showing by STJ fans was a disgrace. I was there and I give credit to the students/fans that showed up. You made quite the effort. But overall, I was embarrassed last night. From the opening intros Arizona fans were louder and in more numbers.

He also did that a few years ago when we had like 5 fans watch us play Marquette in a CVC barnburner

I remember that game, Moose. That particular game was played a few games before Jarvis was canned. What an ugly game!

I was there last night. Was disappointed by the relative lack of St. John's fans especially when when compared with the throng from Zona.

Realize it was a 9:30 start on a Thursday night in November, but thought there would be a lot more Redmen fans. Congrats to those who showed their support.

If we want to continue to attract top talent, we have to show them that we will be there supporting them.

Don't want to get to crazy about the fans disguised as empty seats, it's early in the season.

That said, this team is great fun to watch and very easy to cheer for, IMO.

While there was a good number of students there and they deserve an A plus for their efforts, it appears that the overwhelming majority of the student body could care less.

I guess the same could be said for many of our apathetic alumni who never show up. So much for school spirit!

Makes one wonder if the right marketing minds are in place to engage both the students and the alumni.

I would have to say they arent.

My sentiments exactly, When I walked in an saw so much red i got excited, then i came to realize that arizona is also red and most of the fans that i thought were st johns fans were actually zona fans.

It is pretty disgusting how we try to call ourselves the City's team yet when I go to cuse - St. John's games at the garden there is way more orange than red. (Hate the Cuse ads that say "WE ARE NEW YORK'S TEAM") I work with so many cuse fans, and it is very annoying to see them come out full force then ask were are your fans? campus is 13 miles away from MSG(google maps), really sad.

Our fan base has very little pride, and for those that show up at least wear RED, so many people showing up just wearing anything but red makes us look horrible as a fan base.

The "U of A' chants were drowning out the entire garden too. Regarding the fans, only bitter-sweet moment is that I have never seen St. John's fans being so hostile to another schools fans (sweet only because you see the pride and the passion for your school in them)

and I was at that PITT game last year, the best college basketball game experience i have ever had, the garden was electrified (and that being an understatement in my mind), hoping we get that every game at the garden and this was just a fluke. I also want a sea of Red (the RedZone Redmen is what I want our student section/fans to be called)
