What's the word on Mussini ?

Should we be reading in to this any further? Seeing as its mid year and all, and that Matt is out looking at other guards. Or am I just being a cynical SJU fan?

I think they are protecting themselves w possibility of a guard leaving after this season

honestly i don't want to hear that. I hate hearing all the transfer talk. What happened to "we are a close family" on this team. I actually think Mussini's game has improved greatly with Ponds and LoVett at the point. When Moose is hot that frees up the rest of the perimeter .

Who knows what happens, but in today's transfer world, playing time usually trumps "close family". Simon coming next year obviously is to detriment of someone. Staff is just being prudent in looking at some guards one would guess.

Does make you wonder why someone would transfer in to a crowded roster when someone is transferring out due to the same.

On related note, not sure if I saw it correctly, but the kid from USF that was discussed recently is averaging 20 (??).

Only at SJU is the fact that our lead recruiter is out recruiting a sign of trouble.

Assuming everyone stays, and assuming we go with a 3 guard offense, thats 120 MPG for the backcourt. Ponds and LoVett should avg 60-65 MPG between them. That leaves 55-60 minutes for the other 3 guys. 1 expect Ellison may swing when we go really small, so there should be at least 60 minutes to split between the other 3. Taking in to account foul trouble, injuries, illnesses, etc, thats plenty of PT for everyone, Unless of course someone like an Ellison or Mussini thinks they should be getting 30-35 MPG. My guess is that if Matt is looking at a 6' transfer, its one of our little guys who's the concern. FWIW I didnt use a calculator, and haven't yet finished my first cup of coffee, so my math may be off

Hot is an interesting characterization. This year Missini was 5-6 versus Bethune, 4-7 versus Csun, 4-6 versus Fordham, and 3 of 4 Tulane. On the one hand those were four wins. On the other those teams are all atrocious.

He's 28 of 58 on the year from three, 49 percent, very nice. Against those four teams he's 16 of 23, 70 percent. Against the 8 teams that don't stink he's 12 of 35, 34 percent. That might be a coincidence but I don't think so. Conclusion: he's the most overrated Saint John's player since floor slapping dope Matt Brust.

That said, transfers interrupt continuity, which is bad. On the other hand recruiting over over matched players is good and one way to get better quickly.

I always expected Mussini to be two-and-home, and still expect it. I assume he came here to see if he could make it in the NBA. That's clearly not going to happen, and at what point will being a sub here for the next 2.5 seasons start to hinder his European prospects?

Not basing this on anything in particular, but I think he's a 4 year player, gets his degree, maturity, experience, and signs a nice Euro contract.

Not basing this on anything but in particular, both Mussini and Alibegovic hopefully end the Italian [strike]pipedream[/strike] pipeline. Both are great kids and excellent students but both will never be good defensive players. Both give their all every game but both would have had more succesful careers in lower tier basketball programs.
Although Italy, France, Croatia and Spain have some NBA level talent for sure those players usually end up playing pro ball rather than going to college. I would love for St. John's to cultivate a Canadian pipeline closer to home.
I think Mussini will have a long career in Italian basketball but not as a player in the latter part of his career.

I could see Lovett leaving if we have a terrible year and does not see a chance for improvement next year.

Braziller can see Yakwe and him going if no improvement.

And we have a winner for best line of 2016...

Never know w some of these knuckleheads and their advisors. Lovett already had a redshirt year and is no spring chicken. Doesn't make sense to transfer. Maybe if he thinks his size would impede him from going to the NBA he may leave early to play overseas. But then again logic doesn't always dictate.

Braziller can see only what he reads on this fan board. ;)
Lovett already sat a year. If he leaves it would be to play where a 5'11 guard would be the equivalent to a 6'3 guard in the NBA.
If Yakwe shows no improvement that is more on him than the staff because they penciled him in as a starter. He and Sima may be the biggest reasons for a less successful season than any other players because they were given too big a role, not too small a role. Dollars to donuts neither would be a focal point of the team somewhere else.

I think we need a couple of bangers.

Anthony Glover type would be great.
We definitely could use a banger. Tough rebounder w inside game. Even though Amar and Freud are 6 9 , they both like to hang out at the 3 pt. line. We really don't need bigger guards because next year we will have Ellison and Simon.
