Whats the deal with the Europe trip?

@STJ_Basketball: Still finalizing plans, but looking like Italy-France in mid-late August. #stjbb RT @johnniefan105: When is the Europe trip & where to?

Thanks for the details. This could be a huge advantage and an opportunity for this team to grow. GG hasn't played a game in a year and Sanchez has never played a game at the D-1 level, so there could be some speedbumps with chemistry to begin. Of course, it's also huge for Sheed to get a couple of free weeks of practice and games before Midnight Madness. That will give him 6-7 weeks to work on his deficiencies before other freshmen.

Absolutely huge, and so happy it's landed on this year with this squad. I think the team gets ten days to run full practices plus the actual games and added time in Europe. Huge advantage for our guys.

Wonder if any of our other big east brothers have a trip planned as well.

A stop at the Opera Festival in Verona, (staged in a Roman era Coliseum that was used for gladiatorial naval combat) might not be too bad either.

Fuchsia - don't forget they were Div I gladiators!!!

And you just know Coach Lavin and staff will be recruiting the heck out of Europe!

this is a win-win-win situation.

all the best

It is very do-able that those games can be broadcast live on ESPN3 with our digital cameras and announcers in place on that trip. The system is slightly more complicated than a phone call but broadcasting these games would represent an enormous boost to fan interest at an unusual time of the year. It could also represent an increase in ESPN3 sales (or FOX3, if they need an inaugural promotion when they set up). It would be sweet to see the kids in action right in the middle of the "dark" season.
