What Other Fans Are Saying About SJ

Figured this would be a fun thread. Always think it's interesting seeing other perspectives from opposing boards. Here are some quotes from BC fans last night. First one is my fav.

"The true Frosh from St. John’s is tearing us a new a-hole"

"I’m impressed with St Johns. They are shooting the lights out. Driving to the rim at will and rebounding."

"Kelly guarding Alexander. No thanks."

"Anderson schooling JC"

"St J is playing great tonite. Switched to zone and shut the eags down. Really athletic and quick."
What were the B.C. fans saying during the last 2 minutes?
That they were in too much of a hole but glad they showed some fight.

From BYU fans below:

"BYU vs St John’s - brutal matchup for BYU IMO"

"We will find out soon enough, but yes I think they are better than 9th in BE."

"If BYU had multiple practices to prep for St John’s that would help but they are a tough team to play when you don’t have a chance to practice for them."

"Actually love their PG. Scrappy dude"

"SJU is undersized. BYU should be able to exploit that."

That was hysterical.:)

I'm on a text chain with 2 buddies who are Georgetown diehards and last night during the first half one of them texted me, "You can have Jordan Riley back if you let us have Posh Alexander."

I just responded, "No deal."

I think as practices and games get canceled and replacements get plugged in, this sentiment is definitely true and works in our favor. Especially if our own kids remain disciplined/responsible and/or get lucky and don't have their own practices shut down.

Funny how a differential of 4 points over 2 games changes everyone's outlook. If not for Cole against St. Peter's and Williams ability to draw the fouls in the last minutes of the BC game, the BYU fans will say how st. John's can't hold leads and will be an easy win. Many posters would have already proclaimed the season over.

Most teams don't have a sufficient enough talent edge to play for 35 minutes and still win by 30. There will be an end game to play, and whoever does it best most often wins. There are some exceptions, but the end game is decided by the team that keeps its cool and handles the pressure of the moment. The 2 close wins so far should have taught the team more than any blowout victory.

That Jordan Riley recruitment nearly broke me I’m glad our freshman are making me forget about him for now

Some on here may think I am crazy, but I would take Posh, Greg, and Wusu over Riley. He knew what he was doing when he chose Georgetown. While Riley is a freak athlete, the other three are much better basketball players. He is not a very good ball handler but was demanding minutes at PG.

If we land Kyle Jr, we are much better off and will be set for the future in the backcourt.

I've made it known how much I like Riley but agree with you 100% on this.

I forgot about the Riley snub the minute Pinzon committed. Would rather have guys that can shoot and defend multiple positions over guys who can jump.

I watched two canny, undersized Richmond guards school the might Kentucky Wildcats. If we get Jr., he and Posh are going to be dynamite here. Like the color guy said last night: any recruits watching St. J. would love to play in this system. Kyle, he was talking to you!

Not crazy but rather 100% correct. Riley is a great athlete but has a long way to go in improving his Bball skills. Our backcourt is in great shape going forward with Posh, Williams who played point a little last night and Wusu who has been a huge surprise who deserves every minute of pt he has received to date. From scoring, crazy assists and solid d he has been an outstanding pickup by the staff.
All 3 players have very good skills and a good understanding of the game. Those 3 and Pinzon and possibly Cuffe will be an outstanding backcourt for the new four years.
Jordan who ?

Pinzon makes up for the loss of Riley. Riley is a beast of an athlete, but Pinzon has a ton better feel for things like passing, spacing etc. from what I’ve read, Pinzon actually quite a good athlete if not the nightlight reel that is, but we have one of those in Greg Williams.Pinzon will develop quickly and has a mega-high bball IQ. I’m fine losing Riley. Just give me Pinzon and maybe throw in Cuffe...;-)

We got some love from Sean Farnham on ESPN tonight when the talking heads were discussing the Big East.

They seemed to agree that Nova, Creighton and Yukon are likely to be the top three teams but Farnham made a point of stating how impressed he has been with St John's starting the season with 3 consecutive wins.

On behalf of Johnnies fans everywhere, I thank you, Sean.

Another one who played for Lavin and Lavin still has a soft spot for SJU and it shows in his former players like Farnham and Crispin when they speak.

Not to get OT but I liked Lavin. He was a good dude. He always had a good heart for the schools he’s been at and the players he coached. Loyal guy in that respect.

I said this in another thread, we now see why Jordan Riley's dad wanted no parts in his son coming to St. John's as long as Posh is here. For some reason he think his son is a PG and apparently Ewing told him he'd give him a shot there, which from seeing where Georgetown is headed he may end up starting at PG for them next year, they are really struggling.
