What Is Your "Pencil the Date" Game?

I have been waiting for this cuse game since I went to the dome last year. We owe them a beat down in the worst way and we cannot afford to not show up. But the game I have penciled in right now is the opener vs Wisconsin. Show right off the bat that the big east, and more importantly, St. John's is for real this year.

Georgetown game Feb 16th. Syracuse is a close second, but games late in the season have the potential for much more buzz. If we're ranked and fighting for a high seed, the gtown game could have a lot of juice.
Nobody would've predicted the Pitt game would be the highlight of our season in 2010. Circumstances late in the season kick things up a notch. We won't have that in December.

Good point. That SJU vs Georgetown game will be packed and both teams should be fighting for top of the conference. Will be a good event...

With the start of practice less than a month away, who are people here most looking forward to seeing, if you had to pick one game? Is it the season opener against Wisconsin, is it the traitors from the north Syracuse game, revenge match up vs San Francisco, or one of the new kids on the block, Xavier, Creighton or Butler? Mine is easy, Dec 15, if you have to ask who the opponent is you don't belong on this forum. :p

Cuse, and it's not close. A bit unusual because it's far from our most important game of the year in terms of actual impact. But the way they've manhandled us at home the last 10+ years, the "New York's team" nonsense, this being their first year in the ACC...we just owe them one in the Garden in a major way and the timing feels like it might be right.

After that I agree with Paul, the Wisco game is a significant one. In addition to sending a message Game 1, the OOC schedule does not have a lot of meat so going 0-2 against Wisco and Cuse - while far from the worst thing in the world - would not be a great look come selection time. At the very least it will save us from listening to every pundit repeat "they didn't beat anybody out of conference" ad nauseum.

Lot of big ones in-conference and think we'll win our share, so these are the two I'm looking at right now. Need to get at least one.

Badgers. Our opening game with our "new" team playing a "new" team ( ie. someone we don't play too often.) The contrast in styles will be interesting to see. How do we play against a half court team. Will we impose our will. Exactly what will the lineup look like.

The contrast in styles does make this game very interesting. Will the score be in the 40's or will we be able to speed up the pace force the Badgers to play our game.

Vs Cuse without question.

My prediction is that SJU is unbeaten going into that game and both teams are ranked. If the Johnnies can win that game, especially if in a blowout, they can catapult into the top 15 or higher going into the BE conf schedule.

I agree, it's an intriguing opening matchup. I think it'll be interesting to see how we stack up on the boards. Wisconsin is typically a good rebounding team, and with the additions of Sanchez (and Gift) and the development of Obekpa and Jakarr, we should be much improved in that area. If we hold our own on the boards vs Wisconsin that should bode well for the season.

Besides that, Wisconsin is one of only a handful of teams that have a lifetime winning record against St John's. They have shut us out at 0-3. Time to beat them.

I'd love to set the tone of the season by beating a Big Ten school immediately, and would love to pencil in a home game against Cuse, but for me the 1/25 St. John's vs. Butler game at Hinkle is my choice. Not just because it's a 5 minute drive, but walking into Hinkle is like walking into Wrigley field (or any other venue time warp) and the college basketball experience is such a contrast from MSG that having my alma mater there will be pretty unique and special. If you take any road trip this season, consider that one.

Just curious Indy but how difficult is it to get tickets to Butler home games?

not too bad actually, I've never had a problem getting single game tickets days in advance of the game. Cleveland State, however, is not Gtown or St. John's, and I'm sure the curiosity this first season will make tickets a bit more scarce. A group of 4 tickets for an individual game, once season seats are sold, will not be that difficult (or expensive).

I knew X was good at home, but I didn't realize they were playing almost .900 basketball there. That makes the conference opener in their house a gigantic get, especially seeing as we just need to avoid getting swept in our brutal first 3 conference games and then the rest of January should set up pretty nicely for us.

what's more interesting is who do the staff and players have "penciled"? I think it's cuse, by a longshot. Lavs hasn't beaten them yet as a Johnnie.

Wisconsin. A win against Wisconsin can possibly set the tone for our season. After Wisconsin, we should be able to win all of our games leading up to Syracuse. If we can get to Syracuse on a roll, I believe we can beat them this year. I think that it is very important that we start the season on a positive note.

Personally. I would be interested in then Wisconsin game It will tell us were we are and were we can go. WHERE OUR TALENT LEVEL IS
Just where our overall game is Should be telling for the coaches

I think everyone would sign up now for a split vs Wisconsin and Cuse. And yes follow your thoughts that we run the table in non conference otherwise.

Glad we`ll find out what the REDMEN is about right out of the gate, Wisconsin was always a very good B10 team.
Our first ever new B.E. game @ Xavier is big too, you want that first game.
But if I had a choice for that one game this year, how could it not be Syracuse?

They always had a good laugh at our expense, the team and the fans. So how about on December 15 at our F`ing house we reverse it and SJU fans have a Garden party at their expense.
My hatred for them burns real bad.
