If given a choice of the 2, and knowing what I know now about CMA and the make up of this team, I would have much preferred that Simon stuck around over Ponds. As you say, Simon and CMA would have been a match made in heaven. And Simon would have undoubtedly been the team leader with both words and actions. We have no clue whether or not Ponds would have bought in to CMA's system, and the team-first mentality. It's all moot, but the hypothetics make for good conversation.
