What gift has Redmen basketball given you ?

SJU basketball is my first love since the fall of 1961 The chance to enjoy St. Johns basketball has brought me all over the East coast to see the team play and all over Long Island as I traveled to hear games on WGBB . Two major events in SJU hoops were the sweater game at MSG ( electric !!!!) and the chance to go to the final 4 . Hope we get another gift this year .

For me, most of my closest friends as an undergrad sat in my section. It was a terrific run, lots of long and short roadtrips, lots of laughs that survive to this day, and many, many friendships that have stayed intact. Just about every friend has gave up his seats, but Redmen.com introduced me to a bunch of you, who are equally passionate, and all good guys.

My kids each grew up on SJU basketball, and even attending different colleges, with one on the brink of college, they are dyed in the wool Redmen. So Redmen basketball has given me hundreds of chances to spend one on one time with each kid, rooting for st. Johns.

The chance to root for some great players who represented New York. Including but not limited to (Mullin, Berry, Werdann, Lopez, Barkley, Cook, Artest, Sealy, Williams)

Some Exhilarating Highs and some Exasperating Lows!

The present I did not GIVE to Redmen BB, that I will live with forever,-- is a trip to Lexington, speaking of which if we ever had a matchup in the first game with anyone other than G-Town we'd have been National Champs. Nova or Memphis State knocks off Ewing's gang-- we win hands down. All about Match Ups.

We can never go more than a day without talking about 1985, so to be clear, any team that beat Georgetown that year in the tournament heartily deserved to be called champions, and had the luck of the draw favored us differently, we would have been much less deserving than Villanova had we by chance beaten Memphis State and then Villanova in the Finals.

Memories...good, not so good, but all blood RED.

merry christmas people.

A memory that immediately comes to mind is the 2003 NIT Championship game where we won (although it's now off the records) and got a chance to rush the court. Won't forget that experience.

Several wonderful memories.

First, having a chance to meet Louie on campus in his office and have him sign two basketballs for my sons. That, by far, is my fondest and greatest memory.

Second, being at the garden with my younger son when we won the BE championship under Jarvis and hanging around to watch all the guys cutting down the net and cheering. To this day, my son is an avid St. John's fan, even though he lives in Dallas.

Third, that magical year just a few years ago when we beat Pitt, UCONN, Syracuse and Georgetown at the Garden. At each game one of my sons was with me and I'll never forget the joy and elation I felt after every win.

Yeah, there have been some rough years, but I'll choose to focus on these memories. Thanks St. John's! :)

Not to pick on you in particular, but don't you think that long time fans should be able to spell Looie?

Anxiously awaiting a Johnnies basketball season as far back as the Zeke Zawoluk years.
Helping as a scout for Louie.
Being close friends with Louie and Jack Kaiser.
Having my high school basketball team practice after St.John's did at Flushing Armory. Our gym was unavailable at the time so Lapchick and Louie worked it out for us.
Remembering all the thrills before the games against Syracuse and G'town when the fans began their chants before they came out on the garden floor.
Wearing their colors so proudly.
And most importantly giving my youngest son so many thrills being an avid fan from the eighties to 2010, attending all Alumni and garden games. Recently he passed from brain cancer but never gave up on his Redmen.
