I know it was very hard to talk about st. john's hoops on the station in the past. However all of the shows have talked about the Mullin hiring so this is your opportunity to chime in.

the casual fans calling in want Tom Pecora coaching st. john's. what a joke!

Replace the word "casual" with "clueless." Lavin is 1,000 times better than Pecora. Good Lord!

must be his family calling in because not one sane basketball person would think that is a good idea...well by my definition of sane at least

Francessa will cut off the first caller about Mullin after three words.

Mike will then proceed on a ten minute monologue about how it was his idea, he reached out to Gempesaw, he used to help Chris on his jump shot at Alumni Hall, he knew Lavin would not last, it was his idea that basketballs be orange and when Naismith nailed up an apple basket, Mike told him peach was the way to go...

Rothstein on FAN now. Typing this as he speaks.

Said hiring of Mullin similar to hiring of Hoiberg from administration's point of view. Not surprised Lavin is gone. Expects press conference on Wednesday officially announcing Mullin.

Is concerned about lack of players. PR wise this is a home run for SJU, but from the basketball perspective, they need to put together a team quickly.

Evan Roberts down on the hire. Rothstein agrees its a risky hiring but says that staff hiring will be critical. Said this was always a one horse race with Mullin to turn down. Said Masiello and Jackson were not really in serious consideration.

Said reports of Lavin getting an extension were completely erroneous. Said both sides wanted to part ways and they did it amicably. Chris expected to fly back east today for a presser tomorrow or Wednesday.

Said the new BE not on par with the Power % but more on par with A10 or American. SJU has the ability to be competing with Nova annually for the league championship.

Said he would be very shocked if Mullin was not the new coach. When asked if he liked it, Rothstein said that it will depend on the staff he puts together. Most important thing right now is getting a staff together and get out there recruiting. Roster is barren now and nothing to look at.

Now talking about the Final Four.

i think if Mike was in on Friday, I think he would had lavin or monasch on. When Norm was canned he was on Mike's show.

If Mike is lucky enough to outlive Father Harrington he will announce on air that he turned down offer to coach SJU.

Both sides wanted to part ways? I was under the impression Lavin wanted to stay

Interesting that Mike says that he no relationship with the school but never says why.

Obviously doesn't want it known to his listeners that he "stiffed" the school/

I liked the wit
of TXRedman and Enright in regard to all the prowess and inside influence Francessa proclaims he has had; could add (like Walter Lanza - creator of woody woodpecker - who had to change his name to Lantz to be politically acceptable) Naismith had Mediterranean bloodlines and is Mike's relative - thrice removed - whatever
It will be interesting to hear what else he says as this plays out...
You just know he'll be in a WFAN booth court side when his beloved alma mater makes it to the Final Four...
and

Jersey the "stiffing" I believe was his reneging on a donation?

Too many people, and I include myself here, give this blowhard way too much attention.

I love Mike Francesa and I'm not afraid to admit it. Proud member of mongo nation.

Mike is excellent at what he does.

That said, very few at St. John's are big fans of his due to the way he has treated his alma mater.

There is no love lost between the two, to state the obvious.

If this doesn't matter to you, that is fine with me.

To each his own.
