Welcome Father Shanley!

This is a great message to alumni, to help St. John's by supporting our students and recent grads.  With 160,000 alumni, if everyone in a position to do so were to hire a St. John's graduate or student intern, I'm pretty certain we'd have close to a zero unemployment rate among St. John's grads.  I never wrongly favored St. John's grads, but as Al McGuire once said about his son Allie, "If you want to play ahead of him, you have to be better than him.  All ties lose."

Here is a 30 min overview of their facility.

I didn't get to see the team space, except one part through a big window, but when on their campus last year for a student tour w/ my daughter, we did go into the center and saw what was available to general students.  It was very nice.

Father Shanley came up to PC on Friday. He took a tour of Ruane Friar Development Center with important St. John’s folks. Sounds like St. John’s is pushing for a similar type of practice facility in Queens:

Now that we have a $1 million donation, Father Shanley traveled to Providence for personal reasons, but the donor accompanied him so Father could show him what they did at Providence.   IT will likely cost way more than $1 million, and will not be immediate.

No one on this site should be surprised that President Shanley will undertake fundraising to bolster St. John's men's basketball.

In his Vimeo interview which JSJ previously posted on another thread President Shanley clearly stated:

"The image of St. John's is tied up in hoops".

President Shanley clearly "gets it",  unlike his self serving predecessor (not Bobby. G) who publically talked about shutting down the men's basketball program at StJohn's.

President Shanley understands what admissions officers and fundraisers refer to as the "Flutie Effect".

Shanley is a winner; just Ask any Providence College alum.

If I recall Tafner cost 16-17 million and that was back awhile so yes I would say it would cost over 20 million more than one million.

Important Questions . Did Fr Shanley stay for the SJU - PC game ?  Does he have a Carboard Cut out in the Gym?  If so , can we gat him one for the Virtual Sell Out game in March ?  Or , maybe 2 . I would not be offended if his Cutout had him with a SJU sweatshirt  and another next to him wearing  a PC sweatshirt .

As long as the one in the St. John's sweatshirt is smacking the other one around.

Sounds like sju people happy with bringing Shanley aboard.  Our school needs that type of infusion.

Is the plan to tear down the current practice facility and replace it with a new one?

I'm going to guess no way no how.   Our donor base isn't strong enough.   There is a lot we can improve upon in the current footprint, and I'm guessing that will take priority.   It is a longer range plan, and occur over several years, not months.
