Villanova (MSG), Wed., Jan. 24, 8:30p, FS-1

We had a great defensive effort, and they also missed quite a few open looks...but that combo is how you end up with 50 points at the end of the game. I didn't read through the whole thread, but Ledlum is getting beat off the dribble too often. Otherwise he's an amazing fighter down low for rebounding position and an occasional block - plays bigger than he is. Taylor played both ends of the floor like a beast.
He did get beat a lot baseline first couple of steps but he somehow created an angle which pushed the dribbler off their path to basket. Not sure you can keep doing that but I was amazed how he recovered to what seemed like an easy drive

Zach's take on the game:

...and Mike Vac's take:

It makes me angry sometimes at how bad we have stunk for over 2 decades. We have to be a tournament projected team at minimum every year.

He barely gets any pick and roll opportunities with Soriano. That was his game at Penn. Until he starts getting those looks, it’s unfair to label him as just a backup.

He’s a very similar player to Hardy IMO. Hardy wasn’t breaking ankles and kicking. He was mostly getting his own offense or making basic passes.

Almost every shot Dingle takes I am happy with. I just wish he wouldn’t hesitate and overthink it.

Jenkins was 0-4 from 3 tonight with 4 terrible shots and pulled up from behind the nba line 100% confidence for another terrible shot (that he made). Whatever kind of security Jenkins feels, we need Dingle to feel half of that.
Great analogy comparing Dingle to Hardy. Agree that they have similar games. Hardy did not play nearly as well under Roberts when his playing time was limited. Both Hardy and Dingle require(d) the ball in their hands to succeed and neither were/are terribly athletic or flashy.

Hardy shot 35.4% from deep as a senior and Dingle is shooting 33.3% and was 35.6% last year on an absurd 7.7 attempts per game. That’s pretty close, man. On January 26th in Hardy’s senior season, he was shooting only 29% from 3.

I don’t know if there is time for Dingle to assume that kind of role. He’s got a ton of mistakes and growing pains to get through.
Hardy started his senior season shooting very poorly but after the Fordham loss (where he shot poorly but scored well) it was obvious that he was a stud.

Have been a Ledlum fan since Day 1. You can be taller than he is, you can be stronger than he is, you can be quicker than he is - but you can't want the ball more than he does. He and Taylor are guys who make your team better doing the work that lets other guys get the glory.

As for the game, I wouldn't get high on this win any more that one should have been low on the Seton Hall loss. The net is that the team remains on schedule - all that remains is to beat SHU and Creighton at home, don't F up against Georgetown and DePaul. Anything else (win at Butler, X, Providence) is gravy.
Hall I'm worried about most for obvious reasons.

Keep playing this way and I think we can take 2 of 3 between Creighton, @ Butler and @ X.

Hindsight is 20-20, and when we hired Jarvis he looked like an excellent choice. He coached GW to winning seasons and was snubbed by the Tournament Committee his last year there. I remember when questioned by the media about GW not getting in he took the high road and made a classy response. And let's not forget, he coached SJU to within a couple points of going to the Final Four.

Let's also not forget he left the program in shambles and a basement its taken 20 years to climb out of.

wait- forgot - almost most important

Roses! its back with vengence! - not sure if the 20pt win was aiding in the flavor... but margarita / vodka slice on point to go with the 32oz White Ale!
Its just Rose Pizza now as they dropped the "'s". Not sure why. Same good pizza especially after having some cocktails and/or brews.
