Vac weighing in...

Let him talk to the team today. Release today. At least get in Pitino's ear before Gtown sinks is teeth in. Make Van interim if we make NIT.

Maybe I am crazy but if St. John’s WANTS Pitino they can get him. That is the BIG IF. In the past Pitino was rumored to want the SJU job. He is a gym rat. A NY gym rat. Cut through all the celebrity and it’s still there. NY guy. What better way to reform yourself and round out your career by turning St. John’s a faded NY basketball pillar. Georgetown is the option if St. John’s won’t bite.

Problem is, is St. John’s willing to go big for the aging, baggage loaded Coach? Is there any evidence they want the guy?

In the last couple of days, one of the longest serving sports columnists in NY and has written a piece about what Pitino would do for SJU.

We have Zach discussing it of course and there is also a lot of chatter among the local high school coaches.

It would not be a stretch to say SJU has not had this much attention since Lavin’s first year. And Pitino is not even an employee here.

Imagine the press conference welcoming him here. It will be a well attended event to be sure.

Pitino will bring in more money and free publicity on a national level (which would be costly otherwise) to more than offset his salary.

Get. This. Done.

Have been at the Garden the last 3 sessions and going tonight and every person i have talked to is mentioning Pitino ...of course you have the guys saying they heard it from people they know but it certainly was the buzz after the game and in between sessions last night. Was with a group of fans from Creighton, Uconn, Nova and they all keep mentioning Rick and how they would start to fear st johns again....i think fear is wrong word but that was chatter from everyone. St John's has to close this and close this deal fast so we can hit portal and have players make decisions.

It makes too much sense.

Which is why I'm worried.

I am less interested in inside baseball info and more interested in the fact that a major NY sportswriter is advocating an obvious hire for SJU that a few weeks ago many thought was never going to happen.

It sure feels like momentum is moving in that direction or else would he really write the column?

The kids may not want to play in the NIT if there's no Anderson. Soriano already said he's not coming back without Anderson...that could be an indication of what the team is thinking.

In my opinion it would be better to announce CMA leaving today , Friday . Especially after G’Town announced Ewing’s firing yesterday . If it is going to be Pitino , they should have had him already wrapped up by now . They can delay his Announcement until Iona gets its NCAA bid on Sunday . Then , have a massive Press Conference at a big Manhattan Hotel on Monday . The sooner the better this gets done.

This is all going to boil down to how badly Pitino (and his wife) want to stay in New York. Georgetown is the more prestigious job and we cannot outbid them.
Love your SJU financial savviness!!! For future reference, how's it looking for the soccer coach salary raise? can we afford that?

Assuming we are pursuing him and lucky enough to get Pitino, I doubt he would want anything announced until Iona is finished playing.

Georgetown's endowment is quadruple the size of SJU's. It's no contest. If they want Pitino, they will not be outbid by SJU.

There is no way in hell they are ever going to announce a new coach until that individuals current team (if any) is still playing.

Don't think it's going to come down to $$$. It's where he wants to go and if that school wants him.

Do think his decision will primarily be about $$$?

Speculating for him, it is more about legacy. Is GT or SJU the better option to add to it?
