USF Game Feb 20 / Legend's Night

How many of our legends will actually be there. Will Chris and Mark be making an appearance? Sadly, they rarely do.

Mullin has showed up at a few games the last couple of years.

His ESPN schedule and living on the West Coast makes it difficult at times.

Doubt Mark will be there given his Golden State coaching schedule.

That said, would hope Wooden Award Winner, Walter Berry will be "in the house" among many others

Coach Carnesecca isn't getting any younger (he just turned 88) and I woud think many of his former palyers will make the trek.

That said, COACH looks much younger than the date on his birth certificate.

Do know the university has made a major effort to reach out to all basketball alumni.

I know Gus Alfieri, a starter and star on the 1958-59 team will be attending.

As a senior his team (Alan Seiden, Tony Jackson, Lou Roethel, Rich Engert) won the 1958 Holiday Festival and The 1959 N.I.T., when both were big time tournaments.

Coach Carnesecca was Coach Lapchick's #1 asssistant on that that squad, as you know.

You telling me that guys don't get days off from ESPN gigs all the time to attend functions? And guys don's fly a few hours to attend events for their alma mater? The fact of the matter is that Jackson and Mullin are probably the two most recognizable faces to ever suit up for us, and they rarely show their faces around here. Sorry, I aint buying the excuses.

Well STJ doesn't pay the bills. Forget Jax now. He's a head coach of an NBA team. You are not seeing him around. I was very critical of Mullin and during Norm years he was invisible. Ironically just like most of our fans. That's human nature. He didn't want to be around a losing depressing program. Again since Lav he has been around A LOT more. He cut a commercial for Red White too.

When you say Mullin has been around a lot more, where has he been around? Maybe others have seen him, I haven't. As for his disgust with the state of the program under Norm, certainly he could have put those feelings aside for the sake of his old coach and teammates and attended both the 25th anniversary(f84-85 team) and the arena naming. I'll agree that Jackson has an excuse now, but he didn't show his face before he got the coaching gig. I don't really give a hoot if Mullin and Jackson don't care enough about their alma mater to make the occasional public cameo for a big event and support the school/program, that's their prerogative. I'm just not buying the excuses.

Sorry but I don't have a running log of where he has been. As Beast pointed out he was GM for much of Norm's tenure. Is that not a valid excuse but Jax coaching is OK with you? The 25th anniversary he had to work the NBA All Star Game. As much as its an All Star Game and most people don't like it, its a huge event for both the League and the networks.

He's around more. As Beast again pointed out his kid transferred into STJ this year. He's around. Next time I see him I'll have him give you a call ;)

Only a limited number of tickets for the game are left. Call the Ticket Office on Monday if you would like to attend and receive your Coach Carnesecca bobble-head doll.

I think you don't understnad how expensive it is to come to a game. They can't get student tickets anymore, a railroad ticket costs $20, then the food and beer is so expensive at the Garden.

If I'm not mistaken, Mullin was the keynote at the basketball dinner last season. Just saying. Would it enhance your life if Jackson and Mullin were at more games? Unless they can suit it, I don't think it will help much.

It wouldn't enhance my life, but it might enhance the image of our program just a bit if our big stars showed their face around the program once in a blue moon, especially for big events but for an occasional game also. Ya know, that's kind of the way it works with college sports. Big game, national TV, camera pans the crowd and picks out a few famous alumni from the school. Geez the only time in recent history that happened to us was when Jayson Williams was shown in the crowd. We've gotta be able to do better than that!

Many of our Legends from the mid 80's Golden Years are in careers of their own and not living in the NY area,i.e Mullin, Jackson to BE SPECIFIC.

Lavin seems to have been able to re-establish a connection with many of them and that's a plus. Maybe when the Warriors play in MSG OR Barclay's he can get Mark to a game if it fits the GS schedule? Mark would get a standing O FOR SURE.

i sometimes wonder too, if Walter Berry knows how revered and respected he is by most SJU fans? He is absolutely one of our greatest players and would make any ALL Time REDMEN TEAM. As would Mullin and Jackson.

It would be good to see some other Legends too. Billy Goodwin, Kevin Williams, BOO Harvey, Marcus Hatten, Erick Barkley, Bootsy, Lavor, etc. World be Peace? NAH! i loved him as a player but, since then...

I'm in SC so I CAN'T ATTEND .

Enjoy SC. Hope you are able to play some golf !!

Some former stars at recent games include Jayson (as someone already mentioned), Ty Grant, Frank Alagia, Kyle Cuffe, Carmine Calzonetti, Gus Alfieri, and of course Billy Schaefer and Mel Davis are present at each and every game.

Walter is a frequent visitor to campus. I know first hand since I have spoken with him a few times in the last few months.

Tarik Turner, a great guy, is not a stranger at games, and is also on The Board of Governors.

So does Ron Artest (Metta World Peace) want nothing to do with St. John's or is it the other way around? Rummor has always been that after "THE fight" school wants to put as much distance between him and them.

Mullin was at the press conference and the reception/dinner for the 25th Anniversary and then as mentioned had to catch a plane to do his job. He and Jackson have shown up for other things. Neither one of them are on the East Coast anymore and have other obligations. So, no, they have not been around the program as much as some of the guys who are still local. And yes, efforts have been made in the past few years (even under NR) to bring the Basketball Alumni back into the fold and more visible.

His father still attends several games a year.

That's good to hear, its a shame that he does not come around nor does he show any interest in St. John's
